The Sydney Roosters Holden Cup side have won their first match of the season defeating the Parramatta Eels 24-16.

In terrible  conditions the Tricolours fought bravely to secure the win.

Brendon  Elliot  was the first to cross taking advantage of extra numbers on the left edge to slide over and make it 6-0 early on.

In almost a mirror of the Tricolours first try, Fabian Goodall crossed soon after for the visitors.

It was Braden Uele who then extended the home side lead with a barnstorming run, carrying three defenders with him as he crashed over.

Jakiel Mariner then extended the Tricolours lead when he stretched out to score minutes later.

Goodall then scored his second after a clever cross field grubber to once again cut the lead back before a try on the buzzer to fullback Nathan Davis cut the lead to eight.

A touch of luck and the Eels pounced on a loose ball to level the scores.

It became a real battle as both sides three everything at each other as the skies cleared.

Finally it was the Tricolours who finally got on the scoreboard thanks to a penalty goal from halfback Jackson Hastings.

The young Tricolours then dominated the final ten minutes before finally crossing through Alex Thomas to seal the result.
