The Sydney Roosters produced a gritty effort to beat the Cronulla Sharks 24-18 at Remondis Stadium.

In what was another brutal and grinding encounter the Tricolours managed to take advantage of a host of opportunities to record their third win of the season.

Filling in on the wing in place of Daniel Tupou, Shaun Kenny-Dowall was a stand out for the Roosters, crossing for two tries and proving a constant headache for the Sharks.

The Tricolours nearly scored in their first set when Aidan Guerra burst through only to stumble centimeters short of the line.

A host of opportunities then passed for the visitors and the Sharks took full advantage with Ricky Leutele brushing aside two defenders to score with a great solo effort.

The Tricolours finally hit back when a great run from Waerea-Hargreaves put the visitors on the front foot, enabling Cordner to crash through the defence on the next play with great momentum.

James Maloney then leveled the scores with his conversion from just left of the uprights.

Maloney then scored the Tricolours second after a brilliant solo run from Tuivasa-Sheck.

The young Kiwi picked up a loose ball from a Carney grubber and stepped four players before offloading to Maloney to sprint fifty meters and score.

Wade Graham then reignited the Sharks hopes, crashing over with a powerful effort to level the scores.

Waerea-Hargreaves looked to have scored with a quarter of the game to go only to be ruled back for an apparent knock on.

Off the very next Sharks set Kenny-Dowall caught a Carney bomb and raced 90 meters to the other end of the field to score untouched.

The home side was starting to dominate before the Sharks scored against the run of play.

A quick twenty meter tap was spread out wide, the Sharks then touching down eighty meters down field to level the scores.

Continuing his great game, Kenny-Dowall then touched down for his second.

A great switch of play from Pearce ended up in the hands of Jennings who easily stepped past Carney before passing out wide to the NZ international to score.

The try proved decisive as the visitors went on to win by a single try to return to the winners list, heading in to a massive Anzac Day clash next week.
