The Sydney Roosters have been saddened to hear of the passing of Terry Fearnley.

Player number 430, Fearnley played 139 games with the Eastern Suburbs between 1954-1964, with one appearance for New South Wales in 1960. Unfortunately, injury rendered the front rower unavailable for the Eastern Suburbs side that contested the 1960 grand final against the St George Dragons.

Fearnley began his coaching career with Parramatta, succeeding Norm Provan in 1976. He also coached the Western Suburbs Magpies to the 1982 semifinals, the Cronulla Sharks from 1983-1984 and the Illawarra Steelers in 1988.

At a representative level, Fearnley coached both New South Wales and Australia in 1977 and 1985, and became the first New South Wales coach to win a State of Origin series in 1985.

Widely regarded as the ultimate gentleman on and off the field, the Sydney Roosters extend their condolences to the Fearnley family at this sad time.
