The Rugby League community will pay its respects following the passing of Lower Clarence Magpies player Zane Purcell with a minute’s silence before the NRL Telstra Premiership match between the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Sydney Roosters on Friday night.

NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg said the players would also wear black arm bands.

“This is an appropriate tribute to Zane - a man who lost his life playing the game he loved,” Mr Greenberg said.

“On behalf of the entire Rugby League community, we offer our condolences to Zane’s wife and daughter, family and friends.

“The Country Rugby League is providing support to Zane’s family to assist them through this incredibly difficult time.”

Mr Purcell died on Sunday during the reserve match against the Ballina Seagulls.
