The Roosters have made it three wins in a row to start the season, beating the Penrith Panthers 14-12 in a nail biter at Pepper Stadium.

It couldn’t have been a worse start for the Roosters, after the opening kick of the night sailed out on the full to gift the Panthers an attacking set in our half.

They wouldn’t be converted though and a back-and-forth opening ten minutes would follow.

After Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was penalised in front of the goal posts, the Panthers would quickly elect to take the two-points for an early lead to open the scoring.

Twenty five minutes into the half the Panthers would be the ones to strike first, after a wild pass from Matt Moylan found the mark to Tyrone Peachey on the left edge.

It wouldn’t take the Roosters long to strike back though, and they would do so through Michael Gordon after he was gifted a nice ball from Mitchell Pearce.

Just shy of the half time siren, the Roosters would snatch the lead from the Panthers in brilliant fashion.

Latrell Mitchell made a break down the left edge, passes inside to Pearce, he runs to the ten and offloads back to Mitchell to make it a two-point game at the break.

After Boyd Cordner was called for an accidental offside penalty at the start of the second half, the Panthers levelled up the scores with a shot at goal.

The next shot at goal would come after Ryan Matterson was ruled to have hit Te Maire Martin high in-front of the goal posts, leading to a successful penalty goal from Nathan Cleary to take the lead.

After some controversial back-and-forth play in this one, the Roosters would score in the final five minutes of the game to snatch a late lead and make Roosters fans bite their fingernails.

The Roosters elected to spread the ball on half-way, Daniel Tupou put in a kick which was collected by Gordon to go over for his second try of the night.

Some outrageous goal-line defence at the death would seal the deal for the Roosters in a game that went right down to the wire.
