The Roosters held out a determined Warriors side across the ditch in the Holden Cup with a 24-16 victory at Mt Smart Stadium.

It could not have been a worse start for the young Roosters when hooker Eidan Ackland found a gap for the Warriors in the opening set of six to score a long range try in under a minute.

Just minutes later and they would go over again through centre Melino Fineanganofo, scoring an impressive try on the right edge.

Twenty minutes into the game the Roosters would hit back after a nice run from Jarred Anderson set up Lachlan Lam to score between the uprights.

The remainder of the half was scrappy, but hard fought from both teams to not leak any points.

Though there were plenty of opportunities, the execution lacked the polish and the Roosters went into the sheds trailing by four.

It appeared that the switch had finally switched over at the start of the second half for the Roosters, going back-to-back to kick off the second stanza.

The first was scored through Victor Radley after receiving a near perfect short ball from Lam, then Lam would score his second of the afternoon on the back of the break from Anderson.

An impressive effort from the Warriors down the edge of the touchline would see them bring the scores within two, and an arm wrestle would ensue for the remainder of the match.

The Warriors were running with plenty of momentum and the Roosters were fighting hard to hold on.

In the final minute of the game, Lachlan Lam skipped, stepped and shoved his way to the line to seal a nice victory for the young Roosters,
