Sydney Roosters awarded in the NRL / RLPA Academic Teams of the Year

The NRL / RLPA Wellbeing and Education Committee named their Academic Teams of the Year for 2017 on Tuesday night prior to the RLPA Players Champions Awards.

Sydney Roosters five-eighth Luke Keary was named in the NRL Academic Team of the Year and NYC player Joseph Ratuvakacereivalu was named in the NYC Academic Team of the Year.

Both Luke and Joseph have demonstrated a long-term commitment to further education and were very worthy recipients of these important accolades.

Luke has previously completed Certificate III and IV in Fitness and a Certificate IV in Small Business Management prior to his continuation of a Bachelor of Business Administration at Australian Catholic University.

Joseph completed a Certificate IV and Diploma in Accounting at TAFE before commencing a Bachelor of Accounting at Western Sydney University this year.

The awards ceremony provided an opportunity for the NRL and RLPA to share the successes of the NRL CareerWise program that was implemented across clubs in 2013.

The game has exceeded the target set with more than 84% of players across the game engaged in post-football career preparation.

At the Sydney Roosters, more than 88% of the NYC and NRL players are currently engaged in work or study in support of their future career development.

More than 30 players secured NRL and RLPA education grants to assist with funding their studies in 2017.

Joseph Ratuvakacereivalu’s very proud mother, Fane Takayawa, joined the Sydney Roosters staff members to celebrate her son’s achievements.

Also in attendance were the Elite Athlete Coordinators and Education Providers that support our athletes with flexible and alternate programs to allow them to achieve both their educational and sporting goals.

The Sydney Roosters congratulate Luke Keary and Joseph Ratuvakacereivalu and look forward to seeing their continued success.
