The Sydney Roosters have been deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Bill “Yooka” Symonds, a founding member of the Bondi United Rugby League Football Club.

Affectionately known as “Yooka”, Bill was involved in forming a local rugby league team – Bondi United – immediately following World War II in 1946, where he played at hooker.

Over the years, Yooka remained a dedicated lifelong contributor to Bondi United, holding a number of key positions including Coach and President.

A Life Member of Bondi United, Yooka was also an avid supporter of the Sydney Roosters, and the grandfather of former Roosters NRL player, Tom Symonds, who now plays for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

The Sydney Roosters extend their condolences to the family and friends of Bill “Yooka” Symonds.

Bondi United, the Sydney Roosters and the game is indebted to Yooka for his significant contribution to rugby league.
