Roosters Pleased To Be In Top Four

The Sydney Roosters are sitting where they want to be in the top four, satisfying coach Trent Robinson that they are continually making improvements as the Telstra Premiership finals get closer.

"It's a good place to be. The guys did a good job to get us into the top four last week ... and with results (in round 19) we're still there," Robinson said after the Bondi Junction club made another statement about their presence in September with a 56-24 win over Manly on Sunday.

"At this point of the year you want to be playing a good style of football now, and you want to be on the improve, and you want to be fresh and that's what we're working towards.

"It's a step in the right direction and being in the top four is a bonus."

Scoring 10 tries is another confidence booster – considering eight different players crossed the white line in Victor Radley, Boyd Cordner, Blake Ferguson, Joseph Manu, Latrell Mitchell, Lindsay Collins, James Tedesco and Siosiua Taukeiaho. 

Ferguson and Mitchell scored braces with the Roosters centre kicking eight from 10 goals for a personal contribution of 24 points.

As well as being fourth on the ladder, displacing the Sharks, the 32-point victory has pushed the Roosters for-and-against points to second behind competition leaders Storm.

"I said it last week, and probably the week before, that we're improving. That was the statement we made today," Robinson said.

"We were still in there talking about stuff we'd like to do better.

"It felt like we stuck solid to what we wanted to do from the first to the 80th minute ... The boys didn't stray too far from what we wanted to do, but it was varied enough that we kept coming up with opportunities."

The only downer seemed to be letting in four Sea Eagles tries.

"That was pretty tough to watch. We haven't leaked that many points in a few months," Robinson said.

"So we improved one area but let one (defence) go. They need to match up together to get what we want."

Skipper Boyd Cordner highlighted the fact the tries came from forwards and backs, and five were scored down the left edge, two in the middle and three on the right.

"Everyone is here for a reason and everyone brings something. We all back each other's ability," Cordner said.

"We're a team that backs our instincts and we've got a lot of those style of players. I think we’ve got a very good balance between that and our structure."
