Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership

The Central Coast Roosters have dropped to fourth position on the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership Ladder after suffering a 30-10 loss to the North Sydney Bears on Saturday at Hills Grammar.

With two rounds left of the home-and-away season, John Strange’s team will face the Bulldogs in the upcoming week, before entering a Round 11 bye, where they’ll wait on other teams’ results to determine whether or not they secure a spot in the 2023 finals series.

The Bears claimed two tries in the first 10 minutes through a right-edge play for Rikeya Horne to cross in the corner and a dummy-half dive by Nita Maynard. Kirra Dibb kicked one of two conversions to give her team an early advantage.

A strong run from Central Coast Prop Millie Boyle opened the Roosters’ account in the 13th minute, while Tarryn Aiken kicked the conversion to reduce the deficit to four points.

Teuila Fotu-Moala extended the Bears’ lead to eight after breaking through a gap in the Central Coast defensive line in the 37th minute of the game. Dibb converted from close range to re-establish the 10-point margin.

North Sydney crossed the stripe twice more in the second half, through a right edge play in the 45th minute for Grace-Lee Weekes and a 60-metre run from Rikeya Horne who broke numerous tackles to crash over the line in an impressive effort. Dibb converted both tries, one from the sideline and the other from in-front to bring the Bears to 30-points on the scoreboard.

A textbook left-edge play set up the final try of the game, with Aiken breaking the line before sending Charlize Lloyd-Phillips over the in the corner.

Tarsha Gale

Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy have finished the regular season undefeated after crushing the St George Dragons 52-0 at Mascot Oval on Saturday.

A hat-trick to captain Ally Bullman and doubles to Eliza Lopamaua and Imogen Hei laid the groundwork for the Roosters remain unbeaten as they continue to defend their 2022 Premiership.

The Roosters got off to a red-hot start, claiming three tries in the opening nine minutes, making it difficult for the Dragons to enter the scoreboard. Winger Mia Barber commenced the attacking raid in just the third minute crossing on the right edge, while Bullman and Brooke Talataina both crashed through heavy defence to find the try-line in the sixth and ninth minutes respectively.

A beautiful play from the Tricolours sent Bullman through for her second try of the game in the 18th minute, as hooker Imogen Hei weaved her way through the scattered line with fancy footwork to extend the advantage just five minutes later. Bullman and Barber shared conversion kicking duties with the captain nailing one and the winger adding a further two to cement a 26-point advantage.

Back-rower Eliza Lopamaua found the stripe two minutes before half time, breaking a tackle on the line to plant the ball down.

With the rain starting to fall, Skyla Adams faked a dummy to her right before streaming to the try-line on an angle to evade the defence. Barber converted the try to extend the Roosters lead to 36 unanswered points.

Lopamaua claimed her second try of the day in the 50th minute, crashing through the fatigued line to score. Four minutes later Bullman bagged a hat-trick, selling numerous fake passes to confuse the left-edge defence before racing around the back of the posts to ground the ball. Barber converted Bullman’s try, extending the score to 46-0.

A sneaky dummy half play by Hei carried the Roosters to a half-century on the scoreboard with Barber adding the extras from close-range to round out the Indigenous Academy’s incredible win and send them into the 2023 finals series undefeated.
