Roosters Inspire

The aim is to inspire primary school-aged children to develop and apply the knowledge and understandings, skills, attitudes, and values that are central to these three focus areas – using the great game of rugby league as both a background to and the vehicle for engaging learning experiences.

The lesson content and learning experience used in this resource are directly aligned to the Health and Physical Education curriculum. The learning experiences for both the classroom and the assembly modes have been developed to engage the students in acquiring important knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes about respect, health & wellbeing, and Inclusion & Diversity.

There are three workshops to choose from:

  • Roosters Inspire Respect: Respecting oneself, others and what it means to develop and maintain respectful relationships.
  • Roosters Inspire Health & Wellbeing: Developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, resilience and a positive mind and approach to life and its many and different challenges and opportunities.
  • Roosters Inspire Inclusion & Diversity: Having an appreciation of the qualities of others and a positive attitude towards difference.

There are many ways in which classroom teachers can capitalise on the learning experiences utilised in this resource.

Please contact the Sydney Roosters Community Manager on community@sydneyroosters.com.au for further information.

Skills

Coaching Clinics

  • School Coaching Clinics

Rugby league is about much more than tackling, passing and kicking. It is about working hard, trying your best, and working together as a team.

Through Coaching Clinics, many children get their first taste of playing rugby league using educational drills and games by having fun alongside their friends. The clinics are inclusive, and easily adaptable to cater to all ages and skill levels, meaning no one is left out of the fun of playing rugby league.

Roosters and NRL representatives visit schools to host the clinics around normal school hours to reinforce the importance of education. Students then get the chance to learn on the field as well – from basic rugby league skills to more advanced elements of the Greatest Game of All.

Training/Skill Sessions can be run for your schools Rugby League team or classes who wish to learn or better themselves in the game, using designed sessions for a school’s specific Rugby League needs (ie. Tackle Ready, Core Skills, Attacking/Defensive principals etc.), these training/skill sessions are usually done prior to a Gala Day event or a competition.

These clinics can also be utilised to help drive sports participation, with non-contact skills, and Sydney Roosters Ambassadors in attendance.

Sporting Schools Program

  • Sporting Schools Program

Sporting Schools is a $320 million Australian Government initiative designed to help schools increase children's participation in sport and connect them with community sport opportunities. Sporting Schools programs are provided free to children and their families to help students build the confidence and capability to be active for life.

If your school is interested in having the NRL run Sporting Schools sessions at your school, we can connect and organise these sessions through the Sporting Schools website. The NRL LIFT Program (League Integrated Fundamental Training), is a program designed to encourage junior high school students to participate in activities that have a focus on fundamental human movements and fundamentals of sporting skills along with social, emotional wellbeing skills.

This is targeted for Year 7 and Year 8 students. A one-off Intro Clinic can be run at the school, free of charge, to give your school a trial of the program before a decision is made to have Sporting Schools sessions run at your school.
