Nick Politis’ involvement with the Roosters goes back to 1975, when the company that he founded, City Ford, became the first ever front-of-jersey sponsor in Australian sport. That historic major sponsorship of the Roosters lasted 18 seasons.
He joined the Roosters Board as Chairman in 1993 (a year in which the Roosters failed to qualify for the finals for the tenth time in their past eleven seasons). He would go on to steer the Club through the Super League War and ensure its ultimate survival, as many Sydney clubs faced the cull. Through his leadership the Club quickly established itself as one of the elite rugby league clubs in the country and has continued to prosper ever since. After breaking a 27-year premiership drought in claiming the 2002 NRL title, the Club added three more NRL premierships (2013, 2018 and 2019) during his tenure (to date).
The Club set up a strategic partnership with the Central Coast Rugby League, a Roosters Junior Academy and secured a long-term training, administrative and playing base in the Moore Park precinct (named after Nick Politis in recognition of his decades of service to the Club), all under Politis’ leadership. The Leagues Club group, that he has also led for over 30 years, has built net assets worth well beyond $180m.
The Club has been a pioneer in the women’s game, being one of four foundation NRLW clubs and winning titles in 2022 and 2024. The respect Nick Politis commands throughout the game is immense
