Simon Bonetti joined the Sydney Roosters late in 1996 from Griffith, NSW and was immediately established himself as the Club's first choice hooker. Very durable and an extraordinary work rate in defence, Bonetti played in an era in which the Roosters played finals each year. From Round 14, 1997 to Round 5, 2001, Bonetti missed just one game, including playing a Club record (and equal first grade record) 30 games in 2000.
In 2002, Bonetti was the Roosters hooker as it claimed its first premiership title in 27 years. In the Preliminay Final against Newcastle, Bonetti made 49 tackles in 53 minutes, despite having a badly broken nose, a bruised cheekbone and the flu. It was typical of the courage Bonetti displayed in every match he played for the Roosters.
Following the 2002 Grand Final, Bonetti returned to his first love of farming in Griffith and playing local footy.
