Sydney Roosters Yes Sydney Roosters

Adelaide born Andy Norval arrived at the Roosters from Newcastle and went on to become one of the Roosters’ greatest ever players. Norval is one of just five players to have won four or more premierships at the Club, Dick Dunn rated him the best player he ever saw. “I saw him do things on a football field that were impossible”. He played every position in the backline for Easts, except half back. Not bad for a 1930s lock forward. Opponents ran away from him as he was so punishing in defence and he was also a fine cover defender. He scored 42 tries in 106 first grade appearances.

His NSW appearances were limited whilst Australian captain Wally Prigg was in the side and he went on the 1937/38 Kangaroo tour as Prigg’s understudy but his versatility enabled him to play three test matches on the tour as a winger, scoring a try in each. Norval was named amongst the 100 greatest players of the first century of Australian rugby league and inducted into the Australian Rugby League Hall of Fame in 2008. He was named as lock in both the Roosters Team of the 20th Century and the Roosters Centurions.
