Isaac Liu

Isaac Liu spent eleven seasons at the Roosters, nine in first grade. After playing 19 NYC matches for the Roosters in 2011, Liu was part of Newtown’s (Roosters feeder club at the time) NSW Cup premiership team of 2012 (with Daniel Tupou and Daniel Mortimer) and in his first season of first grade in 2013 Liu played 15 first grade games, including the Preliminary Final. By Round 5, 2014 he was a regular first grader and from that day to his final Roosters game in 2021, Liu played in 188 of the Roosters’ 200 games. A highly consistent and hard-working forward, Liu was one of just the sixth forward to play 200 first grade games for the Roosters and the eleventh player overall to reach that significant Roosters milestone.

Liu was ‘Mr Reliable’ with an extraordinarily low error rate and a loyal clubman. He played five test matches for Samoa through 2014-2015 and in 2017 played the first of twelve tests (eight whilst at the Roosters) for the country of his birth, New Zealand. Through the back-to-back premiership seasons of 2018 and 2019 Liu played 50 of the 54 matches, starting in 46 of the 50 games. He played off the bench in the 2018 Grand Final and was starting prop in 2019.

After leaving the Roosters Liu played for the Gold Coast Titans (2022-2024), and the Leigh Leopards (2025-26) and Hull FC (2027) in the ESL.
