Born in Cowra, NSW, but brought up in Kawana on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Chris Flannery arrived at the Roosters in 2000 and quickly established himself as one of the competition's finest utility players. In a seven year career in the NRL at the Roosters, Flannery played every position in the side with the exception of prop and hooker. He became a regular first grader in 2001 and was a try scorer, off the bench, when the Roosters won the Grand Final in 2002, their first title in 27 years.
He would go on to play two more Grand Finals in 2003 and 2004 and was a regular member of the Queensland State of Origin team from 2002 to 2006. A strong defender with a great ability to run strong lines in attack, Flannery's versatility made him a vital member of those Roosters teams of the early 2000s.
He left the Roosters at the end of 2006 and played six seasons at St Helens in the Super League, winning the Challenge Cup in 2008 and playing four successive Grand Finals from 2007 to 2010. He was inducted into the Sunshine Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.
