Kevin Stevens

Kevin Stevens joined the Roosters from Grafton in 1973 with his older brother Terry and went on to become one of the finest utility players of his era. He played the bulk of the 1974 season at five eighth until a knee injury in the major semi final ruled him out for the remainder of the season and denied him the opportunity to play in the 1974 Grand Final. He was switched to the forwards in 1975 to accomodate premiership winning five eighth John Peard and he played a major part in one of the grestest seasons in the club's history (19 successive wins at one stage of the year and a record Grand Final win). Stevens played 16 matches in first grade in that 1975 season, including all three finals matches as lock forward. In the Preliminary Final against Manly-Warringah 'Stumpy' scored three of the Roosters' four tries.

He played 62 out of a possible 70 matches between 1976 and 1978 before constant knee injuries severley restricted his first grade appearances in 1979 and 1980 (ruling him out of that season's Grand Final) and led to him leaving for Parramatta at the conclusion of the 1980 season. Injury also robbed Stevens of playing in two Pre-Season Cup winning sides (1977 and 1979). Stevens was a clever player with fine ball playing skills, an extremely solid defender and competent goal kicker.
