Harry Phipps had a long term association with, and love of, the Roosters for over 40 years until his death in 2013, aged 81. Phipps, a Roosters life member, is credited with reviving the Sydney Roosters award nights, in 1995, after they had laid dormant for a number of years. The criteria for eligibility for the Harry Phipps Rising Star Award was slightly tweaked in 2025 to ensure that all future winners are genuine NRL 'rookies'.

Chris Sykes was an elite junior talent in the Roosters system who was diagnosed with cancer whilst playing President's Cup (Under 21s) for the Club in 1993. Despite a grim prognosis, Sykes continued to play a major role in that team, which was to go on to win the 1993 President's Cup title. Sykes was named player of the match in the Grand Final and very sadly passed away the next year, at just 20 years of age.

* After an absence of 17 seasons from the various second tier competitions run by the N.S.W.R.L. the Roosters returned in 2023 to the N.S.W. Cup, whilst they were in the final year of a five year arrangement with the North Sydney Bears (2019 - 2023), where Roosters players not required in first grade on a given week played for the Bears. Prior to this the Roosters had similar arrangements with Wyong (2015 - 2018) and Newtown (2006 - 2014). With their return to the competition in 2023, under the Roosters name, the Player of the Year award in the second tier competition was resurrected, after previously being discontinued in 2005, when the Roosters last played in the N.S.W.R.L. competition under its own name.
