NAIDOC Week Celebrations: 7th 14th July

The Sydney Roosters have been busy this past week supporting NAIDOC week in the Eastern Suburbs Community.


NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians in various fields.


The theme for NAIDOC Week 2013 was We Value the Vision: Yirrkala Bark Petitions 1963, which marked the 50th anniversary of the important turning point in traditional rights and ownership.


Sunday 7th July: Bondi the Beautiful Fair, Bondi Beach

Last Sunday , as part of Waverely Councils Winter Wonderland Magic Campaign, the Sydney Roosters were present at Bondi Beach at the Bondi the Beautiful Fair with players Shaun Kenny Dowall and Mitchell Pearce, mascot Rocky the Rooster and our Cheer girls.


The Bondi the Beautiful Fair is an annual community event which brings people together to celebrate the beautiful environment! The theme this year is 'Re-use to keep the environment beautiful'. The event featured free live music, face painting, wildlife, talks and information on all things environment, food stalls, interactive art installations and loads more!


Mitchell Pearce and Shaun Kenny Dowall spent their lunchtime signing autographs, posing for photos and chatting with both locals and visitors who had travelled to Bondis iconic landmark for the day


The event was officially opened by La Perouse indigenous elder Uncle Les who gave a wonderful insight on the indigenous history of Bondi Beach this was followed by a spectacular performance by local indigenous dance groupYellomundee Family Band who show cased a traditional aboriginal dance as well as a modern hip hop routine.


Saturday 13th July: Woolloomooloo NAIDOC Family Day

The Sydney Roosters spent Saturday down at Woolloomooloo for the NAIDOC Family Day. This annual event held by the Walla Mulla Family and Community Support at Forbes Reserve, is a day of celebration with cultural performances and cultural activities.


Roosters legend Freddy Fitler was in attendance with Roosters Mascot Rocky and Roosters cheer girls to help out with the celebrations handing out free Roosters merchandise to all attendees and promoting the game of Rugby League

Sydney Roosters respect and honour the Traditional Custodians of the land and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the lands we meet, gather and play on.
