A runaway try with just two minutes remaining has seen the Cronulla Sharks defeats the Roosters Holden Cup side 26-24.

After finally hitting the lead, the Tricolours, boosted by the return of Samisoni Langi looked to be heading to victory until Sharks centre Rea Pittman ran 50 meters to score at the death.

The Sharks came out determined in the first half and were rewarded for their efforts when they crashed over early on.

Not wanting to get off to a slow start, the Tricolours hit back after a great solo run from Nene Macdonald.

It didn't go according to plan after that for the home side with the Sharks running in two quick tries.

The Tricolours hit back just before the break with Brendan Elliot out leaping ex-rooster Dallas Wells to score in the corner.

A great backline movement straight after the break saw captain Rhyse Martin cruise over to level the scores at 12 a piece.

The two sides went at each other for the next ten minutes scoring a try a piece to again level the scores.

A brilliant intercept and an 80m run by Sharks fullback Valentine Holmes put the Sharks back in front.

After Holmes then slipped while attempting to catch a bomb Rhyse Martin stormed through to put the Tricolours in front with fives minutes to play.

It was there that the Tricolours hearts were broken with the Sharks running fifty meters for the victory.
