It seems an age since we were watching the Tricolours of our Roosters out in the middle but the wait is over as our Under 20s prepare to take on the Dragons this Friday night in their first trial of the 2014 season.

New Head Coach Adam Hartigan will take charge of his first match after being appointed to the role following the off-season departure of Paul Green to the Cowboys.

With just a quarter of his 28-man Squad possessing NYC experience, Hartigan knows the task at hand isn't about the two points this Friday night.

"It's important for us to start the season the way we want to go on with it," Hartigan said.

"We obviously play every game to win but this Friday night is about putting into practice what we've worked on all summer and using the match to improve on it."

The Junior Roosters were knocked out in the second week of the 2013 Finals Series, but aren't worrying too much about anything that's gone before.

"It was disappointing to have gone out in the fashion we did, after such a great year, but the returning boys will use that as motivation and the new boys won't let it bog them down."

"We're all looking ahead and 2014 is a fresh start for the whole group."
