Regarded as one of the fiercest front-rowers in the game today, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves showed a softer side when he chatted with Roosters.com.au at last night's 5 Year Members Loyalty BBQ.
With the sun setting over Waverley Bowling Club it was some of the Tricolours most passionate and loyal Members who came together for a beer, a laugh and a "feed" in celebration of 5 or more Years signed on as a Roosters Member last night.
And, according to Vice-Captain Hargreaves, it's these events that are just that extra bit special.
"I love these kinda things," Hargreaves said.
"It's always fun when you get to mix and mingle with Fans, but it's these Member events that are just that little bit more special."
"I've been here for a while now and this is my home, all of the boys look at the Club that way. So if that's how we see the Club, then this is who we see as our extended family - those Members that have been there with us since the beginning."
Hargreaves was one of six famous faces in the room last night, with the front-rower joined by current team mates Mitchell Aubusson and Frank-Paul Nuuausala, Assistant Coach Craig Fitzgibbon and former Roosters Russell Fairfax and Brad Fittler.
With the VB going down smoothly, the smell of the snags making it's way through the room and onto the bowling greens, it was MC Brad Fittler who had the crowd entertained and laughing along as he quizzed Fitzgibbon and Fairfax in only the way that 'Freddy' can.
With stories from years gone-by, their thoughts on the current Roosters Squad and the importance of Members to rugby league clubs, the crowd was given insights into the minds of some of the game's greatest ever.
Something even Hargreaves, a seasoned professional, enjoyed just as much.
"It's a really cool concept for those that have shown their loyalty to us as players and the Club, over all these years," he said.
"They get to meet all of us boys all the time so it was really awesome to see the Members enjoy the stories from Fitzy, Freddy and Russell Fairfax. How cool for them."
"I really enjoyed it, sitting there with them all in the crowd. It was a great night!"
