The Sydney Roosters Holden Cup side hammered the top of the table Newcastle Knights in their own backyard, running out 40-16 winners.

Leading the competition by four points, the Knights have been the benchmark all season but were outperformed all across the park.

Despite a ten-all scoreline at halftime, the Tricolours completely dominated the second half to run out massive winners.

After falling behind early Latrell Mitchell showed why he is a potential star of the future, collecting a Knights kick deep in his half before racing eighty metres, brushing off defenders at will to put the Tricolours on the board.

Jack Goodsell then scored his twenty first try of the season, collecting a tap back from a Jackson Hastings bomb to level the scores after the Knights had registered a second.

It was from here that the demolition began.

A blockbusting run from a tap by Vincent Leuluai started the carnage, the back rower stormed through the defence and out sprinted the fullback before Braden Uele wrestled his way over to extend the lead to two converted tries.

Just five minutes later Hastings slid on to a clever grubber kick to seal the result for the visitors.

Two late tries to Jokatama Dokonivalu and Brendan Elliot rounded out a great performance from the young Roosters.
