The Sydney Roosters have been deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player, Des O’Reilly, following a long battle with illness.

Player number 653, Des was a member of the Eastern Suburbs’ 1975 Premiership-winning side and also played in the 1980 Grand Final with Easts, playing 127 first grade games with the Club between 1975 and 1982. A City and New South Wales representative player, Des also played 14 games with Cronulla between 1984 and 1985.

The Clovelly junior was known as a strapping utility forward and made his first grade debut with Easts on April 13, 1975 in the Tricolours’ Round 4 match against Manly.

Des O’Reilly’s funeral will be held on Monday, March 14 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (121 Mains Road, Sunnybank, Brisbane) at 11.00am.

The Sydney Roosters extend their heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Des O’Reilly at this sad time.
