The Sydney Roosters are set for a blockbuster match-up on Saturday night when they take on the Canberra Raiders on their home turf in Round 17.

There's no disguising the recent history between these two sides, with all three of their 2019 matches coming down to the final possession and their one meeting of 2020 going in favour of the Raiders.

Sitting in fourth and fifth place respectively, there's plenty at stake when the two sides meet at GIO Stadium with a spot in the top four on the line.

In the same vein, both sides are running hot winning five of their last six matches since the last time they met.

The Roosters will enjoy some welcomed returns to the line-up in Round 17, with plenty of excitement brewing around the return of Sonny Bill Williams for the first time since 2014.

Raiders: Centre Curtis Scott is being monitored with a leg injury. Matt Timoko is on standby in the reserves. Prop Josh Papalii and hooker Siliva Havili return to the run-on side with Dunamis Lui and Tom Starling back to the bench. Corey Harawira-Naera returns in place of Timoko on the interchange.

Roosters: Luke Keary is set to return from a rib injury in place of Drew Hutchison and Sonny Bill Williams is set to play his first NRL game since 2014 on the bench.

Captain Boyd Cordner will start after getting through his injury comeback last week with Nat Butcher dropping to the interchange while Poasa Faamausili shuffles to the reserves.

Both Angus Crichton and Mitch Aubusson are some chance to return after being listed in the reserves. Centre Josh Morris will make his 300th NRL appearance.
