Best Moments of 2021: Celebrating Cordner's Career

Season 2021 will certainly live long in the memories of the Roosters faithful with so many moments that stood out in what was truly a unique year in Club history.

We've gone through the memory bank and selected ten of the best moments from the year in chronological order.

At the halfway point of the season, courageous captain Boyd Cordner officially announced his immediate retirement from Rugby League after 180 games in the Red, White and Blue - a career which was certainly celebrated by the code.

Boyd Cordner Retirement Press Conference

The skipper of back-to-back Premierships in 2018 and 201 and captain for both New South Wales and Australia called time on his glittering career in mid-June in an emotionally charged press conference at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

A host of teammates and coaches were present to celebrate the career of Cordner, including former Roosters Brad Fittler, Cooper Cronk, Todd Carney and Mitchell Pearce.

"For once in my life and my career I had to put my own health and happiness first," Cordner said.

"I'm proud that I've come to this decision. The easiest thing for me would've been to say nothing and play on. But I know now that this is the toughest thing that I've had to do."

When asked of his greatest achievement in the game, Cordner was quick to fight back tears and answer: "I think the number one thing for me would be to be able to call myself a Rooster."

Head Coach Trent Robinson also paid tribute to the three-time Premiership winner through the week as well, having coached Cordner since 2013.

“Boyd has been an incredible player and leader for the Roosters and I’ve loved coaching him," Robinson said.

"Boyd is a man of conviction, and his achievements over the years, not only at Club level but also in the representative arena, reflect the highly-respected man that he is."

Cordner then joined the playing squad in their Sunshine Coast hub as the competition relocated to Queensland in one of the most selfless acts of the season - proving himself to be a True Rooster.
