Cordner makes young fan's day on regional NSW tour

True Blue Boyd Cordner made a young fan’s dream come true today (Friday 3 December) after joining Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler and Harvey Norman NSW Sky Blues coach Kylie Hilder for a football clinic at Bombala in the Monaro Region of south-eastern NSW.

The clinic was attended by more than 40 children, including one young boy who turned up in his Sydney Roosters jersey unaware that his favourite player Cordner had just arrived in town to help with the skills and drills.

“There was a kid there and he had a Roosters jersey on, and he came up to me and he had tears in his eyes, and he said, “He’s my favourite player, I love the Roosters, I love Boyd Cordner.”

“To introduce him to Boyd was just a great moment.

“It’s great to see Boyd Cordner, this is his first time on a regional tour, he came up on a trip to Taree when we went up and visited the people after the fires which was devastating.

“I look forward to seeing more of Boyd Cordner on the coming days and the coming years.”

Cordner, who captained the Blues to a series win in 2018-19, retired from the NRL this season but joined the NSW camp for this year’s historic 2-1 win which saw all three games played in Queensland.

Fittler, Hilder, NSWRL Officiating Development Co-ordinator and former NRL referee Gavin Badger, and True Blues Nathan Hindmarsh and Steve Menzies are touring around regional NSW to promote junior Rugby League registrations for the 2022 season.

The tour will take in 24 towns, seven football clinics, two referees clinics and more than 3000 kilometres with the motorcycle riders heading to Wagga tomorrow (Saturday 4 December).
