Belief High in Roosters Camp as Robinson Welcomes Mackay Return

Syndey Roosters Head Coach Trent Robinson has relayed his belief in his squad ahead of their clash with the Gold Coast Titans as they take the field at BB Print Stadium in Mackay.

The Roosters mentor also backed the Club's venture to sunny Mackay as they enter their second leg of Queensland matches ahead of Magic Round in Brisbane next weekend.

Robinson Rd 9: "The Belief in Our Team is Really High"

Despite the Roosters' recent results, Robinson was confident in his side's ability to return to the winner's circle and backed his belief in the team with a long season still ahead.

“It’s always difficult when you lose a couple of games in a row,” he said.

“But our focus this week has been clearing up how we want to play, holding onto the things we’re doing well and then just improving and loosening up and playing some free-flowing footy in attack.

“The thing I love is that we’ve been working hard. People talk about the games that we haven’t won, but we’ve been right down to the wire. We haven’t sort of flowed yet but that’s going to come based on the week that we’ve had and the conversations that I’ve had.

“Defence has been really good, our pressures have been really good, our small effort areas have been good. We’ve just haven’t nailed the opportunities that we want to in attack yet.

"We Need to Start Strong" - Tedesco

“But there’s a long way to go. The belief in our team is really high. You clear it on the day after the game, have your discussions then you move about to getting to this weekend.

“I believe in how hard they’re working and I know they’re really fighting each week so you have to keep believing in those players and they’ll come into form very soon.

“We know where we’re at, we’re in Round 9 and here we come.”

Robinson also spoke about the Club's decision to take a home game to Mackay - and reminisced on the previous visits which saw a number of rookies start their careers in the famous Red, White and Blue.

After enjoying three matches at BB Print Stadium, the Club has been clear on making Mackay their 'home away from home' - with Robinson in full support of the decision.

“I remember in 2017 we came up here and played a trial against the Cowboys,” he said.

“Some of the guys like Sitili (Tupouniua) ended up taking on his Tongan mate (Jason) Taumalolo in that game and that was really fun.

“Lindsay Collins pulled on the jersey for the first time as well and we had some of those guys who have been in this new era just getting started here.

“Coming back the last couple of games last year we enjoyed coming up here. We don’t take games away from home lightly but when it was offered to come back up we chose Mackay – they’re a footy town.

“We’re pretty happy to be coming back to Mackay – it was our choice to bring our home game here. We had a choice of a few places in Queensland and we decided to come here.

“We love it as a footy community, we enjoy playing on this ground.”

I believe in how hard they’re working and I know they’re really fighting each week so you have to keep believing in those players and they’ll come into form very soon.

Trent Robinson Roosters Head Coach

Now in his tenth season at the helm of the Tricolours, Robinson was proud after being reminded of his recent milestone but insisted that his job was far from complete.

“I love the game, I love coaching Rugby League and to be coaching at a Club like this for ten years, I’m really proud to be at this place and coach this team,” he said.

“That’s why I’m going to be here for a lot longer and that’s why I decided to stay for a lot longer here.

“Simply, it’s home for me. It feels like home and I believe where we’re going as a team as well.

"I’m looking to enjoy this tenth season and keep on believing in where we’re going and where we’re getting the improvement."
