Seniors Report Round 17: Big Win and Big Lead for Flegg

The Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg side is now six points clear of their nearest rival at the top of the ladder, while the North Sydney Bears were unable to claim the points on their road trip to Canberra.

Young Guns Stand Up, But Bears Downed

The North Sydney Bears were unsuccessful in claiming the two competition points in their 16-30 defeat in their trip to Belconnen against the Canberra Raiders, with a trio of youngsters providing the points for the side.

Young half Sandon Smith opened the scoring just three minutes in, but the home side scored twice in quick succession in the 19th and 25th minute to take the lead.

Kieran Hayman, filling in the no.18 jersey at fullback, dotted down just before the break, with the Bears trailing by just two points as the conversion attempt was waved away.

Just as they did in the first half, Norths touched down first upon resumption with teenage back rower Siua Wong giving his side the lead, but the see-sawing contest continued as the Raiders returned serve.

The final 20 minutes belonged to Canberra as they extended further with their fourth try, before sealing the result in the shadows of fulltime, bringing the final score to 30-16.

The North Sydney Bears will take on the St George Illawarra Dragons in Wollongong this Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.

Masima Scores Four in Belconnen Blitz

Winger Tevita Masima was the main beneficiary of the Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg's victory over the Canberra Raiders on Saturday, scoring four of his side's tries in the 40-14 thumping.

While the home side touched down first, the Roosters replied through centre Jordan Swann, with Masima touching down soon after to claim the lead, before a three-try blitz gave the Tricolours a 26-6 halftime advantage.

The Raiders closed the gap with an early four-pointer to start the second stanza, but the second half belonged to Masima, who touched down in the 41st, 47th and 54th minute in a thirteen-minute try-fest.

Canberra bagged a consolation try with ten minutes remaining, but the result belonged to the Roosters as they took home another dominant win, returning to Bondi with a 40-14 victory.

Sydney Roosters 40 (Tevita Masima 4, Jordan Swann, Tyler Colley, Corey Ross, Luke Knight tries; Hugo Savala 3, Jack Mossman goals) def Canberra Raiders 14
