Easts Looking to Send off SCG in Style

It's finally here - the last game at the historic Sydney Cricket Ground, and the Sydney Roosters are determined to send it off with a victory on Saturday night when they face the Wests Tigers.

Since the formative years of the Club's existence, the Sydney Cricket Ground has played a host to a number of famous victories, including seven Grand Final wins in 1923, 1935, 1936, 1940, 1945, 1974 and 1975.

Crichton: "We're Really Gelling as a Team"

Now that the Roosters' four-year tenure at the famous ground which berthed so many iconic moments is over, a strong finish is exactly what the side is looking to achieve on Saturday night.

"They've played a lot of Grand Finals there, a lot of cricket games," Angus Crichton said.

"You can still see all the names up on the walls. It's pretty special sitting in the same changerooms as those guys sat in.

"To finish our time at the SCG with a good performance, that's the goal."

There's such a rich history and we go to Allianz Stadium in the last round, so we want to put on a Roosters-style performance and playing that hard brand of footy that we like to play.

Egan Butcher

For five-eighth Luke Keary, who was part of the dominant 2019 side that won all but one match at the hallowed ground, says that the venue will hold a special place in the hearts of the squad who created plenty of lasting memories in their stay.

“It’s awesome," Keary said.

“I’m a big cricket fan so me and Drew Hutchison sit in the dressing rooms before a game and go over all the players up there who scored hundreds and that type of thing.

Keary: "We're Improving Each Week"

"But it's been special to be able to play there for four years. We've had some really good memories there, we've had some really successful years there. We play well there.

"It's a good, fast track and we've spoken about how special it is."

Two of the side's youngest members, Joseph Suaalii and Egan Butcher may have only taken the field a handful of times, but understand the significance of 'The Grand Old Lady.

Suaalii's much-anticipated NRL debut was at the venue in Round 11 of last season, while Butcher had to wait until this season to experience the SCG in all its glory.

Roosters and Steggles Making a Difference Together

"I love it. It's a fast ground, the crowds come out," Suaalii beamed.

"We train there throughout the week and obviously it has a lot of history behind it. Even playing one game there is special."

"I had my first game at the SCG this year," Butcher added.

"There's such a rich history and we go to Allianz Stadium in the last round, so we want to put on a Roosters-style performance and playing that hard brand of footy that we like to play.

"We want to give the respect to the SCG that it deserves."
