Seniors Report Round 24: Bears Claim Third Spot, Flegg Take Out Minor Premiership

Both the North Sydney Bears and Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg sides have finished the regular season in the best possible fashion, posting 60 points each and staking strong positions in the top five.

Bears Breeze Past Mounties to Claim Home Final

The Bears faithful were in full cheer at North Sydney Oval on Sunday afternoon as the red and black posted a 60-6 demolition of Mounties to claim third position on the NSW Cup ladder.

Tom Carr took advantage of a brilliant flick pass then a cutout to cross in the corner in quick succession, Renouf Atoni pounced on a loose ball to score before Kevin Naiqama broke through on a scintillating solo effort.

The momentum continued as Jacob Preston put Ethan King over as the Bears claimed a dominant 28-nil halftime lead.

King grabbed his second just minutes after the break, stepping through the defence, while Jordin Leiu took the quickest route through as he barged over to add his name to the scoresheet.

Josh Bergamin was the next to dot down on the right, before King claimed his third thanks to a chip over the top from his five-eighth, and although Mounties broke through, Preston bested that effort to streak away and add to the tally.

Roosters Crowned Minor Premiers in Flegg Flogging

The Red, White and Blue were sure to add to the pathways trophy cabinet in 2022, and did so as they claimed the Jersey Flegg Minor Premiership with a 66-0 demolition of the Victoria Thunderbolts.

Travelling down to Melbourne, the Roosters got rolling with two tries in the opening nine minutes to Riley Meyn and Luke Knight, before outside backs Jordan Swann and Xavier Chatfield-Mooka extended after 21 minutes.

Knight claimed a quick-fire hat-trick with two more tries, before Tyler Moriarty got over to give the Roosters a commanding 36-nil lead at the break.

Chatfield-Mooka broke the second half deadlock close to ten minutes in, with Corey Ross adding his name to the scoresheet, before Swann bagged his brace as the towering winger completed his hat-trick to extend.

The backline completed the scoring as Vuate Karawalevu got over as Vaiala Tamati iced the match with a four-pointer of his own with Easts holding their opponents to zero in a 66-nil demolition.

The Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg will have the week off after claiming the Minor Premiership before taking on the winner of the Newcastle Knights and Penrith Panthers for a spot in the Grand Final.
