Women's Report: Roosters Continue Winning Ways

John Strange’s Central Coast Roosters have continued their unbeaten streak in the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership competition, this week crushing the Newcastle Knights 20-10 at Cessnock Oval on Monday evening.

While the Tarsha Gale Roosters remain undefeated heading into the final round of their regular season, with the defending premiers crushing last year’s runners up 22-10 on Saturday at Kurri Kurri Sports Ground.

Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership

Another stellar performance from Jocelyn Kelleher helped the Central Coast Roosters down the Newcastle Knights 20-10 in Cessnock on Monday night.

With the entire team lifting to keep Newcastle scoreless in the second half, the Roosters remain on top of the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership ladder, with three rounds left of the regular season.

Newcastle scored their opening try through fullback Shanice Parker who crossed in the eighth minute, before Tayla Predebon found the line again six minutes later. Jesse Southwell kicked one of the two conversions to make the difference 10 points.

A simple dummy half play got the Roosters on the board in the 24th minute, with Shawden Burton placing the ball down beside the posts to claim the try. Kelleher nailed the conversion from close range, reducing the deficit to four.

Central Coast centre Kelsey Clark levelled the scores four minutes later off a right edge play created by Kelleher before the halfback snagged her own try after streaming through the defence in the 33rd minute of play. Kelleher converted to make the half-time score 16-10.

The Roosters defended tirelessly in the second half, keeping the Knights from the try-line.

As Newcastle centre Jasmine Strange was sent to the sin-bin for a professional foul in the 56th minute, the Roosters made use of the numerical advantage to send French international second-rower Perinne Monsarrat over to cement the victory.

The Central Coast Roosters will now face the North Sydney Bears in top-of-the-ladder showdown at Hills Grammar on Saturday afternoon.

Tarsha Gale

Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy sit in second place on the Tarsha Gale Cup competition ladder after cruising to a 22-10 win over the Newcastle Knights at Kurri Kurri Sports Ground on Saturday.

Roosters hooker Imogen Hei scored the opening try in the fourth minute before winger Paige Lowe crossed four minutes later to cement an early lead for the defending Premiers.

Following last week’s heroics, Lailani Montgomery claimed another four points on the brink of half-time before firing out of the sheds to bag a double in the 32nd minute of the match.

Newcastle’s Leah Ollerton scored her teams only two tries in the second half, but the effort wasn’t enough to overcome a late try to Brooke Talataina, who ensured Sydney’s unbeaten streak would continue.

The Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy Tarsha Gale team will now turn their sights to the final round of their regular season, where they’ll face the St. George Dragons at Mascot Oval on Saturday.
