Round 5 Match Preview: Taking on the Titans

The Sydney Roosters will head to Queensland for the second time in five weeks to take on the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday.

Recent History: Sydney Roosters vs Gold Coast Titans

The Roosters and Titans went head-to-head twice in 2022, with the Queensland-based club taking the two competition points in the first encounter before the Tricolours settled the scores with a 38-12 victory in September.

So far in 2023, both teams have recorded one loss and three wins. The Roosters have defeated the Broncos, Dragons and Sharks, but fell short to the Raiders in Round 2.

While the Titans were undefeated until last week when they were downed by the Knights in Newcastle.

With four teams sitting on the same amount of competition points atop the NRLW ladder, Saturday's result could be vital to the standings at the conclusion of the regular season.

How They Line Up

John Strange has named an unchanged line-up following Saturday's win over the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at PointsBet Stadium.

Corban Baxter will don the no.1 jersey and take the reins at fullback again this week, with Brydie Parker and Jayme Fressard on the wings and Jessica Sergis and Isabelle Kelly in the centres.

Tarryn Aiken and Jocelyn Kelleher continue their combination in the halves, while Millie Boyle, Keeley Davis and Teuila Fotu-Moala line up in the front row.

Amelia Pasikala, Olivia Kernick and Keilee Joseph complete the starting side in the back row.

Shawden Burton, Grace Hamilton, Pani Hopoate and Otesa Pule have been named on the interchange bench. Mya Hill-Moana, Mia Wood, Lily Rogan, and Lexi Kiriwi round out the line-up on the extended bench.

Titan's Coach Karyn Murphy has made two forced changes to the line-up for the hosts after Jaime Chapman and Reilee Jorgensen were ruled out with concussion. Destiny Mino-Sinapati will fill the vacant centre spot, while Hailee-Jay Ormond-Maunsell will join the bench.

Key Match Up: Millie Boyle vs Shannon Mato

Two powerhouse props meet in the middle this week in a battle between Millie Boyle and Shannon Mato.

In her first season at the Club, Boyle has had a monumental impact on John Strange's team, leading from the front with brave carries and heroic defence.

The dual-code international will play her 25th NRLW game this week and continues to build each time she takes to the field.

In 2023, Boyle has scored one try, broken 16 tackles and averages 177 run metres per match, tenaciously backing up her efforts in defence - making 105 tackles in four games.

Mato, who has also represented the Wallaroos, has been a driving force for the Titans success this season.

The Queensland Maroons star averages 169 run metres and 14.5 hit-ups per match and has broken three tackles in her four appearances this year.
