In Memoriam | Ron Taylor

The Sydney Roosters are saddened to hear of the passing of Rooster #414, Ron Taylor.

Ron, a local junior, passed away on Friday, 29th December 2023, at the age of 91.

He made his first-grade debut as a centre for the Roosters in the opening match of the 1953 season and played 14 first-grade games in all for the Club over two seasons. He also hailed from the same champion Club Celebrity team that Jack Gibson played for, while his father, Joe, was the proprietor of the Celebrity Club.

After just seven first-grade premiership games, Ron was selected to play for Sydney against the touring American All Stars in 1953, which was captained by Clive Churchill.

Following his second season in first grade at the Roosters, he left the Club and joined South Sydney. Whilst at Souths, Ron played one game for New South Wales in the centres alongside the great Harry Wells, with Brian Carlson and Peter Diamond on the wings in a very high-quality NSW three-quarter line.

The Sydney Roosters extend their deepest condolences to Ron's family and friends.
