Roosters to Create History in Inaugural Lisa Fiaola Cup Outing

The Sydney Roosters will create further history on Saturday, February 2 when the Club's Lisa Fiaola Cup side takes the field for the very first time.

In another important achievement in the Club's Women's Pathways Program, the women's under 17s side will kick off their 2024 campaign at 10:30am at Hills Grammar in Kenthurst against the North Sydney Bears alongside the defending Premiers Tarsha Gale Cup side who take the field at 11:45am.

The competition's inaugural full-length season, which aligns perfectly with the Tarsha Gale Cup, Harold Matthews Cup (Mens Under 17s) and SG Ball Cup (Mens Under 19s), will see the Sydney Roosters play eight regular-season matches across nine rounds, with all four starting this Saturday.

Head of Pathways, Blake Cavallaro, spoke on the implications that the new side would bring to the growing Sydney Roosters Pathways system.

"The Sydney Roosters Junior League for the first time participated in women's contact rugby league, which has now converted into our first-ever inaugural under 17s women's competition," Cavallaro said.

We've had players like Otesa Pule come through from our Under 19s Tarsha Gale Cup side and go on to debut in the NRLW, and now we'll have girls from fifteen years of age an opportunity to progress into the elite game.

"This will allow us to identify talent earlier in their rugby league careers, we will be able to develop players from an earlier age and thirdly, it opens the opportunity for players to develop from our Lisa Fiaola Cup team to our NRLW side in the future and come through the Sydney Roosters' pathways system.

"It will also line up perfectly with our male junior representative sides in the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup, and allow players to participate in our Junior Leagues.

"We want to thank our sponsors BRC Roofing and Cladding for coming on board and supporting the side, and wish Head Coach John Maher and his team the best of luck for the season ahead."
