NRLW Head Coach John Strange, alongside NRLW stars and emerging talents from the Sydney Roosters Pathways Program, will strengthen the LA Roosters squads as they compete in the NRL Las Vegas Nines Tournament later this month.

The Roosters have named an impressive lineup for the Women’s Nines team, headlined by NRLW stars:

  • Jocelyn Kelleher
  • Jasmin Strange
  • Jayme Fressard
  • Shawden Burton
  • Mia Wood

Additionally, the Men’s Nines team will feature emerging talent from the Club’s Pathway Program, including:

  • Tyreece Tait
  • Owen Flaherty
  • Hayden Barton
  • Emery Jolliffe

The squad will depart for Los Angeles later this month, where they will immediately integrate with their American counterparts and begin focused positional training.

Sydney Roosters NRLW Head Coach John Strange, will combine with Emiliano Nash (Head Coach) from Los Angeles in leading the LA Roosters in this unique competition and is eager for the challenge.

“I love coaching all forms of rugby league, and this is something different that I can’t wait to be a part of,” said Strange.

“I’ve picked Aubo’s (Mitchell Aubusson) brain, our last Nines champion, and we’ll be ready,” he added.

The Roosters are also bringing valuable experience in the Nines format, with both Mia Wood and Jayme Fressard having previously played Sevens Rugby.

Beyond the tournament, this partnership strengthens the Roosters’ long-term relationship with the LA Roosters and opens new pathways for talent identification.

“There is a growing interest in rugby league in the U.S., and our affiliation with the LA Roosters allows us to scout potential talent from another part of the world,” Strange continued.

“Athletes in America have a strong foundation in elite sports, a competitive mindset, and an understanding of high-performance environments, traits that could translate well to rugby league.”

Strange, who has a deep history with the Roosters from his time as a Central Coast coach to leading a top-grade Premiership-winning side, is thrilled to be representing the Club on the other side of the world.

“I love the Sydney Roosters and am genuinely excited to be coaching another Roosters team internationally,” said Strange.

The NRL Las Vegas Nines will be an exciting showcase of rugby league talent, and the Roosters are eager to make their mark on this global stage.
