NSW Cup

The Sydney Roosters NSW Cup team have moved to the fringe of the Top Five with a second successive win, defeating Manly-Warringah 36-20 in Tamworth on Sunday. After overcoming a 19 point deficit to defeat Canterbury-Bankstown in Round 9, the Roosters found themselves behind 14-0 minutes before half time in their Round 10 clash against the Sea Eagles.

A simple backline move in the 39th minute of the first half saw right centre Kyron Fekitoa cross the line to score and with the sideline conversion by Chad Townsend the Roosters went into halftime 14-6 behind after a half that was dominated by Manly.

The Fekitoa try was to be the first of six successive tries to the Roosters who turned around a lacklustre first half to inflict the Sea Eagles with a heavy defeat. Again, the Roosters found utilising the pace and skill of Dominic Young on the right wing was a recipe for success and he scored one of the six tries and had a hand in two others, after backs Ethan King and Ben Johnson opened the second half scoring with tries down the left side. After scoring 30 straight points to lead 30-14 the Roosters conceded a late try but scored one even later themselves to prop Makahesi Makatoa to secure a 36-10 win. Only a poor points differential is keeping the Roosters out of the Top Five after these consecutive comeback wins.

Next Sunday the Roosters return home to Wentworth Park to take on competition leaders the New Zealand Warriors.

Jersey Flegg Cup (Men’s Under 21s)

The Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg team have won their fourth match of the 2025 season with a comprehensive 24-10 victory over Manly-Warringah at Wentworth Park. The Roosters welcomed four members of the premiership winning Roosters S.G. Ball Cup squad into Sunday’s team (centre Baxter Warner, hooker Jaxson Allen as well as interchange props Itula Seve and Phillip Lavakeiaho). More are expected to play in the coming weeks.

The Roosters led 12-0 after 30 minutes with tries to lock Zack Visconti and left winger Kade Maguire. Maguire’s try was off a lovely pass from NRL squad member Ethan Roberts, who was returning to the game after missing last weekend’s matches with concussion. Prior to the halt time break Manly opened their scoring to bridge the gap to 12-6 at the half time break.

Manly scored early in the second half to get within two points of the Roosters but a second try for the match for Maguire in the 55th minute, his 11th from 9 games this season, restored the Roosters eight point advantage. The Roosters secured the match when Roberts combined nicely with centre Will Molloy down the left before Roberts scored to give the Roosters their 24-10 win.

With the win the Roosters have moved to 7th on the table. The Roosters, like most Flgg Cup teams, don’t play next weekend.

NSW Women’s Premiership

Competition commences on Sunday, 6th July

Ron Massey Cup

The Glebe Dirty Reds Ron Massey Cup team has returned to the winners list with a 32-24 won over Blacktown Workers at Wentworth Park.

The Dirty Reds team included Sydney Roosters NSW Cup squad members Trey Peni, Vito Tevaga, Turoa Williams and Josh Finau. Glebe ran in six tries to four after trailing Blacktown 18-16 at half time.

The win lifts Glebe back into the Top Four ahead of their May 25 clash with eighth placed Canterbury-Bankstown at Wentworth Park. There is no match this weekend.

Sydney Shield

The Glebe Dirty Reds Sydney Shield team have slumped to their fourth loss (and second by two points) of the season with a 22-20 loss to Manly Leagues at Wentworth Park.

The Dirty Reds team included Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg Cup squad members Druzel Taula, James Khoo and Joseph Currie.

The Dirty Reds led by 20-0 after just 25 minutes and looked headed for a comfortable victory but a swing in possession and field position toward the Sea Eagles soon after the Roosters fourth try was the catalyst for a massive Manly comeback. By the 61st minute the visitors led 22-20 and did enough in the last quarter to hold on for the win.

Glebe have now dropped to 6th on the ladder ahead of their May 25 clash with ninth placed Moorebank Rams at Wentworth Park. There is no match this weekend.
