Michael Cheika joins Roosters Coaching Staff

The Sydney Roosters have today announced the appointment of Michael Cheika as the Club’s Coaching Specialist, Forwards Coach NRL.

Already familiar with the Tricolours following a consultancy role in 2020, Cheika will now take on a specialised role with the Roosters’ NRL forwards while also supporting coaches and players throughout the Club’s pathway system to drive consistency and excellence across all grades.

One of Australia’s most respected sporting figures, Cheika brings extensive experience at the highest level, having coached some of the world’s most renowned rugby union teams, including Australia, Argentina, Leicester Tigers, NSW Waratahs, and Stade Français. Since 2020, he has also served as Head Coach of the Lebanon national rugby league team.

“Michael is a proven leader with a deep understanding of high-performance environments. He has a unique ability to connect with athletes and bring the best out of them. We’re excited about the impact he will have, not only with our NRL forwards but also across our pathways as players and coaches continue their development,” said Roosters Director of Football, Mitchell Aubusson.

Roosters Head Coach Trent Robinson also welcomed the appointment.

“Michael and I have had a strong relationship for many years, and I’ve always admired the way he leads and challenges athletes. His experience in rugby brings a different perspective that will inspire and test our players and coaches,” said Robinson.

“To have someone of his calibre join our program is exciting, and I’m looking forward to getting started,” he added.

Cheika will commence his role ahead of the Roosters’ 2026 NRL pre-season in November.
