Vale Mick Alchin

The Sydney Roosters are saddened to hear of the death of Rooster No. 623 Mick Alchin, who died on Tuesday, aged 82.

Alchin was a quick and very tough winger who joined the Roosters in 1972 after a number of seasons playing with the Western Suburbs Magpies. He played 19 first grade games across two seasons (1972 and 1973) at Easts, scoring 12 tries. He was unavailable for selection for the 1972 grand final due to a back injury.

He left the Club during the 1974 season to captain/coach Wentworthville in the Sydney second division competition. A close friend of Club legend Arthur Beetson, Alchin returned to the Roosters after he retired from playing to coach in the lower grades.

He was the Roosters 1977 Presidents Cup assistant coach, before coaching lower grades at Parramatta. When Beeston returned to the head coaching position at the Roosters in 1985, Alchin was there to help, as he was when Beetson coached Queensland in State of Origin during that decade.

Alchin’s son, Michael, was also a Rooster (Player No. 793). Mick Alchin will be sorely missed.
