On Wednesday, 8th October, The Glen Centre at Chittaway Point came alive with energy, laughter, and community pride as the Arthur Beetson Family Fun Day brought people together for a celebration of sport, culture, and connection.
Proudly presented by WARD, the day kicked off with the Arthur Beetson Cup, a spirited touch football competition. Teams from across the region laced up their boots and hit the field, channeling their competitive edge while honouring the legacy of rugby league legend Arthur Beetson. The matches were fast, fun, and full of flair — with Gadali ultimately taking home the title after a thrilling final against the Sydney Roosters. It was a contest played in great spirits, and the crowd cheered every try, sidestep, and sprint to the line.
As the final whistle blew, the action shifted gears into the Arthur Beetson Family Fun Day, where the focus turned to community connection.
The scent of a freshly prepared free lunch drifted across the venue, with the BBQ proudly run by Sydney Roosters partner WARD. Families, friends, and neighbours gathered around long tables, sharing a meal together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Families poured through the gates to enjoy an afternoon of free activities and entertainment. Smiles were everywhere as kids bounced through inflatable activities, tried their hand at art workshops, and joined yarning circles that opened meaningful conversations about mental health and wellbeing.
Local businesses, sponsors and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enterprises also showcased their talents and services at colourful stalls, giving the community a chance to connect with and support one another.
Thanks to KARI Foundation for providing free sim cards for those in attendance, as well as setting up their spear throwing inflatable.
The Arthur Beetson Cup and Family Fun Day proved to be more than just an event - it was a celebration of togetherness, resilience, and cultural pride. Under the sun at The Glen, sport and community united to create memories that will last long after the final siren.
