The Sydney Roosters have today announced that Robert Toia has signed an extension that will see him remain with the Tricolours until at least the end of the 2029 NRL season.
A proud graduate of the Sydney Roosters Academy, Toia enjoyed a breakout 2025 season, making his NRL debut in Round 1 before earning Queensland Maroons selection just 10 games into his first year. He capped the year by being named Dally M Rookie of the Year and representing Tonga in the Pacific Championships.
Roosters Head of Recruitment, Joel Carbone, said Toia’s extension was an important retention for the Club.
“What sets Robert apart isn’t just his talent, it’s his character. He worked through some tough early challenges with real resilience and determination,” said Carbone.
“With the work ethic he brings, there’s no capping the ceiling for where he can take his game, and we’re very pleased to have him locked in long-term,” he added.
21-year-old Toia said he was proud to extend his stay with the Club he has supported since childhood.
“The Roosters have believed in me from the start and stood by me through some setbacks along the way. The trust and belief from Robbo, my teammates and everyone at the Club – back to Friendy and Aubo during my Academy days – has always meant a lot to me and made the Roosters feel like home,” said Toia.
“The confidence I took out of 2025 has made me even hungrier to keep improving. I’m so proud to stay a Rooster, and I’ll be giving everything I have back to this Club,” he added.
