Club Weekend Results | 28th February – 1st March, 2026

On a weekend when the Roosters won just two of their eight junior representative matches played on the weekend, both Sydney based Roosters Under 19s teams remained undefeated and they both now sit atop of their respective competition ladders.

S.G. Ball Cup (Men’s Under 19s)

Defending premiers, the Sydney Roosters, have maintained their unbeaten start to their premiership defence with a fourth straight win, defeating the Newcastle Knights 28-4 in their clash at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday. The Roosters, who led 16-0 at half time, are now in first place on the competition ladder and very well placed to give the premiership a real shake again this year.

There was no scoring in the first 20 minutes of the match but the Roosters enjoyed dominance in field position during that period, with their exceptional defence continually restricting the ground the Knights could make with the ball. That very physical defence was tiring the Newcastle team and setting up the victory which they would eventually secure later in the match.

The Roosters eventually opened the scoring after 20 minutes when fullback Rex Bassingthwaite, playing his first game for the team this season, found an unmarked Bastion Armstrong, on the right wing blind side, giving Armstrong a clear passage to the line to score his second try of the year. The missed conversion attempt by halfback Carter Mareko was his only miss of the day.

Four minutes later, as the Roosters continued to pile the pressure on the Knights, Mareko put a lovely grubber kick into the in-goal area for skipper Darcy Smith to score his fifth try of 2026, The conversion gave the Roosters a 10-0 lead.

With the Knights struggling to make ground, an errant Knights pass, thrown well inside their defensive quarter, was pounced on by five eighth Brok Elliott, who quickly got his pass away to left centre Lui Lee to score the Roosters third try in the 28th minute. The conversion gave the Roosters a half time lead of 16-0.

A fundamental Roosters error from the kick off, to commence the second half, gave the Knights possession and field position and quick hands gave the Knights right winger Melchizedek Nonu a free run to the tryline in the opening minutes of the half. The conversion was missed but the score was now 16-4.

However, the Knights comeback stalled as the Roosters regained their dominance and five minutes later a perfectly placed Mareko chip kick was gathered on the full by right edge back rower James Finegan and that converted try gave the Roosters more breathing space, taking the lead out to 22-4. The final Roosters try was scored 11 minutes prior to fulltime when Mareko, 10 metres from the Knights line, threw a very smart dummy to score untouched. His conversion led to the final score of 28-4.

It was a very professional performance by the Roosters, who have now conceded only 28 points in their four games this season. Roosters props Itula Seve and Charleston Te Rore, neither of whom got a break until 10 minutes into the second half, set a great platform for the Roosters to work from. Hooker Liam Bell, who had only played 10 minutes all season, prior to this match, due to concussion, was also very strong for the 51 minutes he got through on his return. Of course, Carter Mareko was once again instrumental in much of the Roosters attack, setting up two tries and scoring one of his own.

The Roosters next play 12th placed Cronulla-Sutherland at Woolooware on Saturday. The match kicks off at 3.15 pm.

The Central Coast Roosters, however, find themselves at the other end of the competition ladder, crashing to their fourth successive defeat, after being beaten 34-18 by the New Zealand Warriors in Auckland on Sunday.

The Warriors were always comfortably ahead, scoring seven tries to three, after leading 22-4 at half time. Roosters tries were scored by left winger Tyriq Campbell, lock and captain Charles Barnes and hooker Kalen Cashin.

The Roosters are back at home next Saturday, taking on the 8th placed Newcastle Knights at Woy Woy. The match kicks off at 2.00 pm.

Harold Matthews Cup (Men’s Under 17s)

The Sydney Roosters have lost their second match of 2026, after going down 20-6 to the Newcastle Knights at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday. The Knights dominated the first half and led 14-0 at the break.

However, the Roosters gave themselves numerous opportunities in the second half but three times they got over the line but were denied. They made enough line breaks to put themselves in a winning position but just couldn’t ice the key moments.

The Roosters only try came early in the second half when five eighth Samuel Large jumped over the top of multiple Knights defenders to gather a Charlie Webb chip kick to score.

Despite the loss, the Roosters had a number of good individual performances, particularly from fullback Harper Boothroyd and bench forward Seu Fidow.

The Knights 20-6 victory leaves the Roosters in 9th place on the ladder after four rounds. The Roosters next play the 13th placed Cronulla-Sutherland next Saturday at Woolooware. The match kicks off at 1.45 pm.

The Central Coast Roosters have now lost three matches in succession after travelling to Auckland and getting touched up 50-18 by the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday.

The Warriors scored nine tries to three, after leading 18-6 at half time. Roosters tries were scored by second rower Ngaru Thomas and lock and captain Manni Campbell, who crossed for a double.

The Roosters, who now sit 14th on the table, return home on Saturday to play 2nd placed Newcastle Knights at Woy Woy. The match kicks off at 12.30 pm.

Tarsha Gale Cup (Women’s Under 19s)

The Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy team continued their great form, with a fourth successive win on Saturday, to remain undefeated and to claim first place on the competition table.

The Roosters defeated the Newcastle Knights 32-16 at Mascot Oval, after leading 18-12 at half time.

The Knights led 12-4 after 15 minutes after two tries to Knights right centre Brandy Simpson. Roosters left winger Kiri-Kowhai Ned crossed for the first of her four tries for the day after two minutes before Simpson took a 90 metre intercept to score the Knights first and when the Roosters didn’t contest a Knights bomb from the following set, Simpson swooped on the ball to score untouched for the Knights second try.

Fortunately, the Roosters kept their composure to score further first half tries to right centre Logan Fletcher and second rower Makenna Hamond, who charged onto a Mia Vaotuua pass to race 30 metres to score the Roosters third try. Ned’s second try, and the Roosters fourth, came after a lovely cut out pass from halfback Meg McPhail that gave left centre Liesl Hopoate the chance to put Ned over.

The Roosters crossed for three more second half tries with Ned scoring two of those and Fletcher scoring the other. giving her a double for the day.

The Roosters have the bye next weekend and as a result are most likely to lose top spot on the table to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, if the Bulldogs beat 5th placed Penrith by 13 or more points.

Lisa Fiaola Cup (Women’s Under 17s)

The Central Coast Roosters have lost their first match of the season, and subsequently fallen to 5th on the competition ladder, after they were defeated 36-14 by the Newcastle Knights last Saturday at Mascot Oval.

The Knights led 12-0 after 16 minutes before the Roosters, through tries to left winger Sienna Kennedy-Wilkie and second rower Jessica Boreham-Cole, got the Roosters back into the game. Kennedy-Wilkie’s try was her 8th from just four games this season.

The Knights went to the half time break with a 12-10 lead, but after the Knights posted two early second half tries, the match started to slip away from the Roosters. The Roosters did post one second half try, to left centre Malia Moses-Kinkaid, but the Knights scored two more of their own after that to post a convincing 36-14 win.

The Roosters have a bye next weekend.

Laurie Daley Cup (Men’s Under 18s)

The Laurie Daley Cup semi final chances of the Central Coast Roosters will now come down to a sudden death Round 5 clash with the Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights next Saturday. After going down 48-22 to the Northern River Titans on Saturday in Lismore, the Roosters now sit just one point ahead of the Knights on the northern conference competition table with the final round match against the Knights set to decide the second semi finalist from the northern conference.

The Titans ran in eight tries to four and led 28-10 at half time to move to the top of the conference table. Roosters try scorers were winger Marshall Michie, centre Kyan Werner, five eighth Zaylen Ekepati and lock forward Benjamin Geddes-Brown.

The match against the Knights on Saturday will be at Woy Woy Oval, with a kick off time of 10.50 am.

Andrew Johns Cup (Men’s Under 16s)

After a second successive loss to the Northern Rivers Titans on Saturday in Lismore, the semi final hopes of the Central Coast Roosters Andrew Johns Cup team hang by a proverbial thread.

The Roosters were beaten 24-12, after the Titans led 16-4 at the half time break. The loss drops the Roosters to 3rd place on the northern conference ladder and as a result the Roosters must now beat the unbeaten conference leaders, the Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights, by 12 points or more, at Woy Woy on Saturday, to qualify for this year’s semi finals.

Against the Titans, the Roosters were behind 20-12 mid way through the second half but the sin binning of lock forward Sunny Egan in the 46th minute all but extinguished the Roosters winning chances.

The Roosters three tries were scored by centre Jett Sherwood, winger Harrison Sherwood and second rower Archie Humphries.

The final round match against the Knights will kick off at 9.30 am and is the first of four games for the Central Coast Roosters junior men’s representative teams at Woy Woy on Saturday.
