With the Sydney Roosters men’s teams enjoying the bye weekend, the remaining Roosters junior representative teams travelled to Merrylands to play Parramatta, but unfortunately the Roosters were soundly beaten in all four games.
S.G. Ball Cup (Men’s Under 19s)
The unbeaten defending premiers the Sydney Roosters had the bye this weekend. They travel to Melbourne on Saturday for their final regular season match to play the 3rd placed Storm.
The 16th placed Central Coast Roosters have been beaten 28-8 by the 6th placed Parramatta Eels at Merrylands on Saturday, after the Eels led 10-4 at half time.
The Roosters were never in the game but fought on tenaciously throughout. The match took more than three and half hours to play out after Parramatta interchange forward Oliver Walker was injured just prior to half time. The match was then held up for over two hours as they waited for an ambulance to arrive. The match eventually resumed but finished in near darkness after 7.30 pm.
The Roosters try scorers were second rower Wyatt Katon and left winger Brodie Jeffreys. It was Jeffreys 7th try from 6 games this season.
Despite the loss, the Central Coast Roosters remain in 16th spot on the ladder and next play the 5th placed Manly-Warringah at Tuggerah on Sunday.
Harold Matthews Cup (Men’s Under 17s)
The 7th placed Sydney Roosters had the bye this weekend. They travel to Melbourne on Saturday for their final regular season match to play the 17th placed Storm.
The 15th placed Central Coast Roosters have been beaten 46-4 by the 5th placed Parramatta Eels at Merrylands on Saturday, after the Eels led 20-4 at half time.
It was the Roosters sixth straight loss after the team started the season so brightly with an easy win over Balmain. The Roosters lone try came at the end of a 90 metre set when centre Harry Calkin broke open the Eels left side defence to send winger Harrison Sherwood to the tryline in the 16th minute of the game.
The Central Coast Roosters remain in 15th spot despite the loss and next play the 9th placed Manly-Warringah at Tuggerah on Sunday.
Tarsha Gale Cup (Women’s Under 19s)
Competition leaders the Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy team have lost their first match of the season after being soundly defeated 30-6 by the 3rd placed Parramatta Eels at Merrylands on Saturday in the Grand Final rematch, after the Eels led 16-6 at half time.
It was a most disappointing loss after the Roosters had won their first six games of the season in style. The match started perfectly for the Roosters when a kick from half Meg McPhail, in the 8th minute of the game, from just inside the Eels half, bounced away from the Parramatta defenders and straight into the hands of Roosters fullback and skipper Mia Vaotuua, who raced away to score under the posts. It was Vaotuua’s 7th try of the season (in 7 games) and the Roosters led 6-0.
However, that was the last time the Roosters would bother the scoreboard attendant as the Eels ran in five tries to run away with the game 30-6.
Despite that loss, the Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy team retain top spot on the ladder and next play the 5th placed Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.
Lisa Fiaola Cup (Women’s Under 17s)
The 4th placed Central Coast Roosters have lost their second match of the season after being defeated 22-14 by the 3rd placed Parramatta Eels at Merrylands on Saturday in the Grand Final rematch, after the Eels led 18-10 at half time.
It was the Roosters second loss of the season as the Eels ran in five tries to three. Once again it was the Roosters wingers that dominated the try scorers list. Right winger Silia Tuitufu scored two of the Roosters three tries, taking her season tally to 11 from 7 games, whilst left winger Sienna Kennedy-Wilkie scored the other, her 10th of the season (from 7 games).
Despite that loss, the Central Coast Roosters remain 4th on the ladder and next play the 5th placed Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.
