Club Weekend Results | 4th – 5th April, 2026

Four of the Roosters junior representative sides have qualified for this year’s final series, with three earning a double chance by finishing in the Top 4 after the regular season concluded over the weekend.

S.G. Ball Cup (Men’s Under 19s)

After 14 successive wins going back to early March last year, the Sydney Roosters have suffered a shock loss to the 3rd placed Melbourne Storm, to finish the regular season in 3rd spot on the ladder, after entering the final round as competition leaders. The Roosters were beaten 28-18 by the Storm in Melbourne, after scores were locked at 6-6 at half time.

The Roosters were well below par on the day, with uncharacteristic errors and sloppy on-line defence leading to the team’s failure to secure what would have been the Club’s 5th minor premiership in the last 9 S.G. Ball Cup seasons.

After Roosters left winger Joshua Fesolai opened the scoring in the 11th minute with his 6th try of the season, the Storm replied with their own try in the 24th minute, which they converted. A Carter Mareko penalty goal just prior to halftime enabled the Roosters to go into the break with scores level, but the danger signs were there throughout the half.

The Storm scored off their first set of the second half to lead 12-6 but the Roosters levelled again at 12-12 eight minutes into the second half when halfback Mareko sliced through the Storm defence to score his 5th try of the season. However, it didn’t take long for the Storm to hit back to lead 18-12 before Roosters skipper Darcy Smith scored his 7th try of the season to again level the scores, this time at 18-18.

Unfortunately, the Roosters couldn’t put together sufficient quality attack to score again and conceded two more tries in the last 10 minutes to go down 28-18. The Roosters had conceded just 9 tries in their previous 7 games but conceded 5 to the Storm on Saturday. Of further concern for the Roosters was winger Joshua Fesolai, who failed to finish the match after leaving the field for an HIA.

After finishing 3rd after the regular season, the Roosters will play the Storm again next weekend in the second qualifying semi-final, with the winner earning a week off.

The 17th placed Central Coast Roosters have finished their first season back in the competition since 2020 with a narrow 24-18 loss to 4th placed Manly-Warringah at Tuggerah on Sunday, after scores were locked at 12-12 at half time.

The Roosters led 12-0 after 16 minutes and a major upset seemed to be a realistic possibility, but with four tries in a 20 minute period either side of half time, the Sea Eagles not only took control of the game away from the Roosters but established a big enough lead that the Roosters could not peg it back. That 20-12 lead was cut back to 20-18 before Manly secured the game with a 60 minute unconverted try, denying the opportunity for the Central Coast to get themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

However, after conceding 174 points in their first four games, the Roosters improved considerably over their next four and although they finished the season with the wooden spoon, with one win and seven losses, they won plenty of admirers with how they finished the season and gave great exposure and experience to a number of local players from the Central Coast.

Harold Matthews Cup (Men’s Under 17s)

The 6th placed Sydney Roosters have secured a semi final berth with a thumping 44-10 win over 16th placed Melbourne Storm in Melbourne on Saturday, after the Roosters led 26-4 at half time.

The Roosters ran in 8 tries in their most dominant win of the season. Once again, the spine of halfback Charlie Webb, five eighth Samuel Large, fullback Harper Boothroyd and hooker Caleb Zahra, were instrumental in most of the Roosters’ attacking raids. Webb scored a double, taking his season tally to six, but he was unable to complete the match, leaving the field late in the game with what appeared to be a rib injury.

With that result, the Sydney Roosters finish the regular season in 6th place on the ladder, with five wins and three losses, and will play 7th placed Manly-Warringah in next weekend’s elimination semi-final.

The 17th placed Central Coast Roosters have lost their 7th successive match after going down 14-4 to 7th placed Manly-Warringah at Tuggerah on Sunday, after the Sea Eagles led 6-0 at half time.

The Roosters never gave up throughout the match and fought courageously for the 60 minutes as they attempted to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon. However, the Sea Eagles were just a little too good and the Roosters finished the season with just one win and seven losses.

I have little doubt that next season will see a much-improved Central Coast Roosters in the Harold Matthews Cup competition.

Tarsha Gale Cup (Women’s Under 19s)

Competition leaders the Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy team have secured the Club’s first minor premiership since 2022 with a 32-6 win over 8th placed Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, after the Roosters led 10-0 at half time.

The Roosters scored six tries to one in a commanding victory, after the team’s disappointing loss to Parramatta last weekend. Roosters tries were scored by right centre Logan Fletcher, left winger Jayda Durham, five eighth Talea Tonga, halfback Meg McPhail, lock Anastasia Leatupue and right winger Liesi Hopoate.

Of concern for the Roosters was, what appeared to be, a left arm injury to second rower Lahni Moore, who had to be replaced in the 19th minute of the first half.

With that result, the Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy finish the regular season in 1st place on the ladder, with seven wins and one loss, and will play 4th placed Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in next weekend’s qualifying semi-final.

Lisa Fiaola Cup (Women’s Under 17s)

The 4th placed Central Coast Roosters have earned themselves a Top 4 finals berth with a final round 18-8 victory over 6th placed West Tigers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, after the Roosters led 12-4 at half time.

The Tigers struggled to handle the size and mobility of the Roosters forwards with star prop Kewa Kahuroa crossing for a double and bench prop Ellshah Paki scoring the Roosters other try.

With that result, the Central Coast Roosters finish the regular season in 4th place on the ladder, with six wins and two losses, and will play minor premiers Parramatta Eels in next weekend’s qualifying semi-final. The teams met just a week ago at Merrylands, with the Eels winning 22-14, and in last season’s grand final, which was also won by Parramatta.

Laurie Daley Cup (Men’s Under 18s)
