Roosters v Sharks – Round 16, 2026

Press Conference

Sharks: Round 16

Roosters: Round 16

Full-time: The Roosters have flexed their muscle to pull away with the victory after Cronulla threatened to hit the lead early in the second half. It was a high-quality contest between two title contenders but a Mark Nawaqanitawase double helped the hosts bounce back after a disappointing loss to the Dolphins last weekend. The Sharks welcomed back Blayke Brailey and Nicho Hynes but their attack struggled to hit top gear amid heavy pressure from the Roosters defence. Roosters 27 - Sharks 8.

Mark Nawaqanitawase 2nd Try

79th minute: Theres no stopping Mark Nawaqanitawase and the Roosters are pulling away with this one now. Tensions are running high after Nawaqanitawase beat multiple Cronulla defenders to score his second of the night. There's been plenty of feeling all game and the Roosters are enjoying this victory. Roosters 27 - Sharks 8.

76th minute: The Roosters have a 13-point lead but they're not letting up defensively. Ronaldo Mulitalo attempted to score in the corner but James Tedesco and Mark Nawaqanitawase combined to bundle him into touch. Roosters 21 - Sharks 8.

Daly Cherry-Evans slots the field goal

73rd minute: The Roosters have launched a Captain's Challenge after Cronulla managed to get the ball back from a short kick-off. Braydon Trindall was tackled when the ball came free, the referee ruling the ball had been stripped. The Bunker agrees and the Sharks have a chance to narrow the gap. Roosters 21 - Sharks 8.

72nd minute: Daly Cherry-Evans has added some extra insurance for the Roosters, nailing a simple field goal to extend his side's lead to 13. With eight minutes to play, the clock is starting to work against the Sharks now. Roosters 21 - Sharks 8.

69th minute: Cronulla have their chance to hit back after Teig Wilton burst through a gap. The back-rower eventually linked up with Will Kennedy, who was collected high. The Sharks posed some questions from the ensuing set but they couldn't find a way through the Roosters defensive line. Roosters 20 - Sharks 8.

Mark Nawaqanitawase Try

64th minute: Mark Nawaqanitawase is enjoying his battle with Ronaldo Mulitalo and he's had another win. Daly Cherry-Evans produced a pinpoint kick for his winger, Nawaqanitawase timed his jump to outleap Mulitalo and get the ball down. The Roosters winger now has 36 tries from 34 games. Roosters 20 - Sharks 8.

62nd minute: The Roosters challenge was for contact in the air, with Ronaldo Mulitalo making contact with Mark Nawaqanitawase. The Bunker says he arrived early and awards the Roosters a penalty. Roosters 16 - Sharks 8.

62nd minute: We have a Captain's Challenge by the Sharks after a Sam Walker kick led to a line dropout. Cronulla thought Reece Robson was offside, but the on-field referee ruled he was onside and the Bunker confirms it. Walker also thought he was held back, but the Bunker dismisses that claim. The end result is a Sharks dropout, which was dropped by Mark Nawaqanitawase and also challenged by the Roosters. Roosters 16 - Sharks 8.

58th minute: The game's entered a bit of a cycle now, with both teams trading sets and attempting to gain the upper-hand. The coaches have turned to their benches in a bid to break the game open, Hohepa Puru injected into the contest for the Sharks. The Roosters have reintroduced their starters, Reece Robson and Naufahu Whyte returning to the field. The hosts now have a chance to take control after receiving a penalty for a high tackle. Roosters 16 - Sharks 8.

49th minute: Roosters have extended their lead after a messy 60 seconds from the Sharks. Jesse Ramien attempted a speculative offload, which did not go to hand. Nicho Hynes then compounded the error by giving away a penalty and then Will Kennedy added to the woes by conceding a penalty of his own. This one came straight in front of the posts and the lead has stretched beyond a converted try. Roosters 16 - Sharks 8.

43rd minute: The Sharks have instantly capitalised on the field position, Nicho Hynes producing a superb cutout pass for Sione Katoa to score in the corner. Roosters winger Tommy Talau was caught infield and Hynes was good enough to identify it and execute the pass. Roosters 14 - Sharks 8.

Kick-off: This match is evenly poised as the second half gets underway, with Cronulla scoring on the stroke of half time. Ronaldo Mulitalo is back on the field, so passed his HIA after being collected by James Tedesco as he scored the try. It's a perfect start for the visitors, with Roosters forward Spencer Leniu penalised for a high tackle in the opening set of the half. Roosters 14 - Sharks 4.

Ronaldo Mulitalo Try

Half-time: This time Cronulla find a way through, Ronaldo Mulitalo diving over in the corner amid heavy contact from the Rooster cover defence. Braydon Trindall threw the harbour bridge ball over the top, Mulitalo dived for the line as James Tedesco launched his body at the winger. The Shark managed to get the ball down just before he went into touch but Nicho Hynes' sideline conversion hits the post. The half-time siren sounded as the ball was in the air, with Mulitalo also being asked to leave the field for an HIA. Roosters 14 - Sharks 4.

37th minute: The Roosters are scoring points at one end and now they're stopping them at the other. The Sharks pulled off a short kick-off and managed to win the ball back to generate their first attacking opportunity since the early periods of this match. Cronulla asked plenty of questions but the Roosters defence was up to the task. The hosts aren't out of trouble yet, however, with Spencer Leniu spilling the ball in the following set to hand another opportunity to Cronulla. Roosters 14 - Sharks 0.

Billy Smith Try

35th minute: The Roosters continue to capitalise on opportunities, with the hosts turning some unstructured play into another try. The play broke down with a loose ball, but the Roosters regrouped, Connor Watson surged on to an offload, linked up with Sam Walker, who put Billy Smith over for the try. Roosters 14 - Sharks 0.

33rd minute: Another opportunity coming up for the Roosters after Billy Burns came agonisingly close to taking an intercept. The forward was off to the races if he secured the catch, but he ultimately dropped the ball and the hosts have an attacking scrum. Roosters 8 - Sharks 0.

Robert Toia Try

28th minute: Wingers Mark Nawaqanitawase and Ronaldo Mulitalo have been going toe-to-toe throughout the first 30 minutes and this time Nawaqanitawase has come away with the points. Daly Cherry-Evans put a bomb up to the pair's corner, Mulitalo tapped it back but Braydon Trindall couldn't pick up the loose ball and Rob Toia on the spot to ground the ball. The Bunker took a close inspection at the contest before ultimately awarding the try. Roosters 8 - Sharks 0.

Kennedy outstanding in the air

21st minute: The Roosters have taken control of the contest and have dominated the last 10 minutes. The hosts are rolling down the field set after set and have come close to scoring down both flanks. The Sharks have scrambled well defensively but they're finding it tough to work the ball out of their half. Roosters 4 - Sharks 0.

Lindsay Collins Try

16th minute: The Roosters have the opening points of the game and the front rowers have come up trumps. Naufahu Whyte put the team on the front foot, Lindsay Collins then burst through on the next play. Collins offloaded to Daly Cherry-Evans, who threw a miracle pass over his head to James Tedesco and Collins was there in support to finish off a long-range effort. Roosters 4 - Sharks 0.

Inches from a miracle

11th minute: Roosters just starting to gain the upper-hand now. A Daly Cherry-Evans kick drew an error from Will Kennedy in the previous set and now a penalty has handed the hosts attacking field position. The Roosters looked to have capitalised when Mark Nawaqanitawase attempted to dive over in the corner but his toe had touched the sideline and the Sharks survived. Roosters 0 - Sharks 0.

Wilton too clever

6th minute: The Sharks have had the better of the opening exchanges and have largely won the territorial battle but the Roosters defence has so far been up to the task and they have successfully defended their line on a couple of occasions. Roosters 0 - Sharks 0.

Kick-off: We are underway in the final game of Round 16 and it promises to be an absolute cracker between two premiership contenders. The Sharks are welcoming back hooker Blayke Brailey and halfback Nicho Hynes, while all seven of the Roosters Origin players will back up. The battle between the hookers will be fascinating, with Brailey and Reece Robson both pushing for the NSW No.9 jumper for next month's decider. Roosters 0 - Sharks 0.

Roosters v Sharks: Round 16

Late Mail

Roosters: Nat Butcher has been promoted to the starting line-up 90 minutes before kick-off with Egan Butcher going to the bench. The Roosters have lost Angus Crichton to a foot injury. Origin reps James Tedesco, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Sam Walker, Reece Robson, Rob Toia, Lindsay Collins and Victor Radley will all back up from Wednesday night. Hugo Savala and Reece Foley have been ruled out after being placed in the concussion protocols.

Sharks: Origin hooker Blayke Brailey makes a shock return just three weeks after fracturing his arm while halfback Nicho Hynes is also back from a calf injury.  In another boost, Jesse Colquhoun is on track to take his place in the team after being cleared of a concussion following a head knock last week.

Storm v Raiders at AAMI Park

Storm v Raiders – Round 16, 2026

Press Conference

Storm: Round 16

Raiders: Round 16

Full-time: The Storm have celebrated Cam Munster's 250th-game in style securing a 42-20 victory over the Raiders. It wasn't looking too good early, as Canberra jumped out to a 16-0 lead but Harry Grant's entry to the field swung the match and Melbourne ran away with it in the second half. Storm 42 - Raiders 20.

Trent Toelau Try

80th minute: Trent Toelau has put a punctuation mark on an impressive Storm victory, much to the delight of 19,000 fans at AAMI Park. Ethan Sanders dropped a pass, Toelau scooped up the loose ball and strolled over for his first try as a Melbourne player. Milestone man Cam Munster then stepped up to kick the conversion and remarkably he did it with his shoelaces undone. Storm 42 - Raiders 20.

76th minute: We're back to the Bunker with Daine Laurie claiming a try after leaping high to catch a bomb. There were plenty of Melbourne defenders in the area and he was instantly corralled when he landed on the ground. Laurie attempted to wrestle to the try-line but grounded the ball short of the line. Storm 36 - Raiders 20.

Sualauvi Faalogo Try

72nd minute: Melbourne are in complete control and they can thank Will Warbrick for laying on another try. The winger ran through and caught another bomb with the Storm earning a fresh set of six moments later. Ultimately Sua Faalogo was the beneficiary, the fullback scoring later in the six to extend the Storm's lead. Storm 36 - Raiders 20.

Moses Leo Try

68th minute: The Storm are one-step closer to two crucial competition points. Will Warbrick went up to regather another bomb and kept the ball alive before Jahrome Hughes drew a penalty and a fresh attacking set of six. The Storm then attacked the edge Xavier Savage had been defending before he left the field for an HIA and they caught Daine Laurie out of position. Moses Leo did the rest to score in the corner. Sua Faalogo's sideline conversion then bounced off the crossbar and through the posts. Storm 30 - Raiders 20.

Leo bone rattler

64th minute: It didn't take long for the Raiders to generate a chance to hit back, but a Moses Leo bone-rattler and an Ethan Sanders forward pass both served to deny Canberra on a desperate last-tackle play. Meanwhile, Xavier Savage has left the field for an HIA, with blood streaming from the Canberra winger's left eyebrow.  Storm 24 - Raiders 20.

Will Warbrick 3rd Try

60th minute: Will Warbrick take a bow. The Storm have repeatedly kicked to the towering winger and you don't have to guess why. Warbrick has a big height advantage of opposite winger Savelio Tamale. This time he jumps over the Raider, catches the ball above his head before falling back to earth and grounding the ball for his third try of the afternoon. Melbourne have their first lead of the game. Storm 24 - Raiders 20.

59th minute: Big opportunity coming up for Melbourne as they look to break this deadlock. The Raiders were on the attack before Ethan Sanders spilled the ball. The Storm then received a penalty and they are now on the attack. Storm 20 - Raiders 20.

Watch Warbrick run

52nd minute: After a try-scoring spree in the first half, we've now gone 12 minutes without a point to start the second. It's the longest stretch of the game and while both teams have been asking plenty of questions, the defences have been up to the task. Storm 20 - Raiders 20.

A flick pass in the in-goal

46th minute: A bit of concern being shown for Storm hooker Harry Grant, who was hit in a crunching tackle by opposite Owen Pattie. Grant is in a fair bit of pain, but Melbourne and Queensland fans can breathe slightly easier with the veteran looking to play through the pain and slowly starting to look more comfortable. Meanwhile, Jahrome Hughes has just produced an outrageous flick pass in his own in-goal to avoid a line dropout. Storm 20 - Raiders 20.

44th minute: It's nearly a dream start for the Storm, who come agonisingly close to the opening points of the half. A Corey Horsburgh handed the hosts an attacking opportunity and Harry Grant nearly orchestrated another try. In the end a Jack Howarth pass hit Xavier Savage in the head and the Raiders survived. Storm 20 - Raiders 20.

Kick-off: We are all locked up as the second half gets underway, with Alec MacDonald making the first carry after the break. It was a topsy-turvy first half, the match turning after Harry Grant was injected into the fray. The Storm halfback will look to pick up where he left off, while Canberra are eager to start the second in a similar manner to the first. Storm 20 - Raiders 20.

Will Warbrick 2nd Try

Half-time: Just as it looked like Canberra would take a lead into the break, Melbourne had other ideas. Sua Faalogo created a break for Moses Leo on the kick return and while the Raiders initially scrambled well, Harry Grant drew a set restart on the last tackle before setting the foundation for Will Warbrick to score his second and level the scores. Storm 20 - Raiders 20.

Matthew Timoko Try

37th minute: The Raiders have capitalised on the Trent Loiero error and they are back in front. There wasn't too much happening on the last, Ethan Sanders shaped to kick before passing to Matt Timoko. The centre got on the outside of his opposite Joe Chan before bursting out of Jahrome Hughes' attempted cover tackle to score the try. Storm 16 - Raiders 20.

35th minute: Now Melbourne have used their Captain's Challenge after Trent Loiero was ruled to have dropped the ball in a tackle. This one is also ruled a loose carry and both teams are out of challenges. It's a let off for the Raiders, who receive possession on their own 40-metre line. Storm 16 - Raiders 16.

Sua on the volley

32nd minute: The Raiders have lodged a Captain's Challenge after Ethan Strange was ruled to have dropped the ball into a Melbourne defender while attempting to play the ball. The Bunker quickly dismisses the appeal and Canberra turn the ball over after working their way into good field position. Storm 16 - Raiders 16.

Cameron Munster Try

28th minute: Harry Grant has been on the field for eight minutes. The Storm have now scored three tries in the space of eight minutes and we are all locked up. The Raiders put the kick-off following the last try out on the full and Melbourne gladly capitalised on the error. Five-eighth Cam Munster ran the ball close to the line, threw and dummy and muscled his way over to ground the ball. Storm 16 - Raiders 16.

Ativalu Lisati Try

25th minute: The Storm have gone back-to-back and the margin has been slashed to just four in the blink of an eye. Jahrome Hughes put up a towering bomb, Will Warbcik outleapt Savelio Tamale before offloading the ball to Ativalu Lisati, who strolled over to score under the posts. Storm 12 - Raiders 16.

Will Warbrick Try

22nd minute: Harry Grant has been injected into the contest and he's helped the Storm convert another opportunity into their first try of the afternoon. The Raiders were stretched on their left, the pass from Sua Faalogo was not the best but Melbourne had a two-man overlap and Will Warbrick scooped up the bouncing ball to score in the corner. Storm 6 - Raiders 16.

Xavier Savage Try

17th minute: Xavier Savage is off to the races and not even Sua Faalogo can chase him down. The Storm were back on the attack and looked destined to score, with Moses Leo unmarked on the left wing. Savage read it well, stuck an arm out in desperation, tapped the ball up, reeled it in and set off for a 90-metre intercept try. Storm 0 - Raiders 16.

Blink and you'll miss him

15th minute: Melbourne have found their groove now and they are asking plenty of questions of the Raiders defence. The Storm have made breaks from inside their own half in two successive sets but Canberra have scrambled well to get back onside and deny their opponents. Storm 0 - Raiders 10.

Owen Pattie Try

9th minute: The Raiders are putting on a show this afternoon and we've just had one of the best tries we'll see all year. Ethan Sanders put up a bomb that was reeled in by Zac Hosking, there were multiple offloads to keep the ball alive on the last, Hudson Young had a wraparound play with Matt Timoko, before he put the ball on the toe and Owen Pattie won the race to the ball for his side's second try of the day. Storm 0 - Raiders 10.

Savelio Tamale Try

3rd minute: It's a dream start for the visitors who instantly silence a big Melbourne crowd. A Moses Leo error handed the Raiders an early chance and they quickly capitalised. Canberra attacked to the left, halves Ethan Sanders and Ethan Strange combined and Savelio Tamale scored a relatively simple try. Storm 0 - Raiders 4.

Kick-off: We are underway at AAMI Park, with Cam Munster leading the team out for his 250th NRL match. It's a crucial game for both teams, with time fast running out to launch a surge up the ladder. The Storm currently sit 12th, with the Raiders down in 16th but both teams finished in the top four last year and this promises to be a high-quality contest. Storm 0 - Raiders 0.

Storm v Raiders: Round 16

Full-time: That's a 10th win of the season for the Warriors who simply had too many weapons for a Cowboys side that had just 45 per cent of possession and came up with 13 errors.

Jeremiah Nanai Try

70 min: Te Maire Martin launches a bomb, Scott Drinkwater spills it, Adam Pompey picks up the scraps and plunges over for a try with two Cowboys trying to deny him. The ball appears to touch the hands of Taine Tuaupiki in the contest but the bunker rules no touch by the Warriors and it's a try. Pompey converts. Warriors 32-16

65 min: The Cowboys go inside the red zone but Heilum Luki comes up with an error as he tries to force a pass.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak Try

55 min: Dallin Watene-Zelezniak gets in on the tryscoring action after brilliant lead-up by Te Maire Martin who bamboozles the defence before delivering a pinpoint pass to his wingman. That's 15 tries in 14 games in 2026 for DWZ. Adam Pompey converts. Warriors 26-10

Taumalolo sent to the bin

Te Maire Martin with an impossible try save

52 min: A big moment in the game as Te Maire Martin comes up with a trysaver to deny Jaxon Purdue who looked certain to score after regathering a chip kick.

50 min: Tanner Stowers-Smith hurls himself at the defence but comes up with an error. The Warriors throw in a challenge alleging a strip but the bunker says 'no'. The challenge is lost and the Cowboys are hard on attack.

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 4th Try

48 min: Make it FOUR for Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad as the left side clicks again with the halves handling before Adam Pompey delivers the final pass to his winger. Pompey adds the extras. Warriors 20-10

43 min: Scott Drinkwater puts up a bomb and Jake Clifford takes it on the full but is swamped by the Warriors defence 10 metres out.

Drinky dazzles: After conceding two early tries the Cowboys needed to lift and their No.1 gun Scott Drinkwater came up with a key intercept to deny the Wahs a third try before setting up Braidon Burns for a try and then crossing for one of his own.

Triple treat: A stunning first half from Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad as he ran in three tries and chalked up a team high 140 run metres. Just behind CNK for metres gained was Blues Origin prop Mitch Barnett, who got through a power of work with 14 runs for 119 metres and 21 tackles.

Half-time: The Warriors had 61 per cent of possession and completed five more sets than the Cowboys but the visitors hung tough to trail by only four points.

40 min: Demitric Vaimauga sends an inside ball to Te Maire Martin as the Wahs chase late points but the halfback can't handle and the Cowboys cling on.

37 min: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad looks to have a stunning fourth try for the half but the excitement is short lived as the last pass is ruled forward.

Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad 3rd Try

34 min: That's a hat-trick for Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad as Chanel Harris-Tavita delivers a sublime pass and the winger races 30 metres to the line. CNK is the first Warrior to grab a first-half hat-trick since David Fusitu'a in Round 1, 2017 against the Knights at Mt Smart.

22 min: The Cowboys get their first penalty when the Warriors fail to get square at marker. A chance for the visitors to get some field position after doing plenty of defence.

21 min: Jackson Ford leaves the field with what appears to be a pec injury and he is done for the day.

19 min: Heilum Luki is also pinged for a high shot that takes the penalty count to 5-0 to the Warriors.

18 min: The Warriors have had 65 per cent of possession and go inside the red zone again on the back of a penalty against Griffin Neame for a high shot.

15 min: A clean line break by Jaxon Purdue has the Cowboys on the attack but Jake Clifford's cross field kick is expertly defused by Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.
