Roosters Congratulate Matt King on NSW Blues Head Coach Appointment

The Sydney Roosters have extended their congratulations to NRL Assistant Coach Matt King following his appointment as Head Coach of the NSW Blues.

King has been a valued member of the Roosters coaching staff since joining the Club ahead of the 2017 season. Widely respected for his football knowledge, leadership and ability to develop players, King has made a significant contribution to the Roosters' sustained success over the past decade.

“On behalf of everyone at the Sydney Roosters, I'd like to congratulate Matt on his appointment as Head Coach of the NSW Blues,” said Roosters CEO Joe Kelly.

“While we'll certainly be sad to see him depart the Roosters at the end of the 2026 season, we couldn't be prouder that he's been given this opportunity and know he'll do an outstanding job,” he added.

Sydney Roosters Head Coach Trent Robinson said King's appointment was recognition of years of dedication to his craft.

“Matt has earned this opportunity through years of hard work and by consistently demonstrating the qualities of an outstanding coach and leader,” said Robinson.

“Since joining us in late 2016, he's had a significant influence on our football program. He's meticulous in his preparation, cares deeply about the people around him and has played a major role in the development of so many of our players and staff.

“We've still got an important season ahead together, and our focus remains on finishing that strongly. After that, I know he'll embrace the challenge of leading New South Wales and represent the Blues with distinction. It's a well-deserved appointment and one everyone at the Roosters is incredibly proud of,” he added.
