NRLW Match Report | Round 10

65rd min: An unsuccessful captain's challenge for the Bulldogs after questioning a call of a strip. 

63rd min: A rare double for prop Tayla Predebon, who just proves too strong to stop close to the line. She charges her way over, again under the posts and it's an easy conversion for Kirra Dibb. Knights lead 50-18. 

60th min: Injury update - Good news for the Knights with Olivia Higgins back on the field after earlier causing concern with an arm issue.

56th min: Another impressive try to the Knights, with Tiana Davison going over straight under the posts after the home side play 'hot potato' style football with plenty of offloads, stepping in and away and passes out to their supporting team-mates. Dibb slots it over again and it's now out to a big 44-18 lead. 

54th min: The Knights nip the fightback in the bud, with rookie dummy half Charley Lahmert the next to score for the home side with a sharp run while shaking off defenders. Dibb converts this one for 38-18. 

48th min: The Bulldogs just won't go away and go over to again make it a contest, with Ma’atuleio Fotu-Moala the latest to get over the try line. Preston converts for 32-18. 

45th min: After having to endure some pressure from the Bulldogs, the Knights strike back with Mercedez Taulelei-Siala getting their first for the second half out on their left. Some nice work in the left up with a break down field by fullback Lucy Spain to put them on the front foot. Dibb's conversion is waved away and it's 32-12 to the Knights. 

41st min: A captain's challenge by the Knights is unsuccessful, with Kirra Dibb shown to have stripped out a ball. 

Jersey update - Newcastle halfback Georgia Roche is in jersey number 23. 

37th min: An error from the restart by the Knights gives the Bulldogs a sniff and they capitalise quickly, with Monica Tagoai over for a double on their left. A strong start to the second half by the visitors, but Tayla Preston can't convert this try in the wind and the score stays 28-12. 

Half-time: The home side are in control at Newcastle, leading 28-8 in windy conditions. Impressive young second rower Fane Finau has a first-half double for Newcastle, but the Bulldogs have some positive momentum going into the second half, scoring just before the break. Representative hooker Oliva Higgins came from the field mid-way through the first half and was seen getting strapping on her arm. 

34th min: A hit-back by the Bulldogs just before half-time, with Monica Tagoai going over on the far left corner. Tayla Preston can't convert this difficult attempt so the score remains 28-8. 

31st min: A double for Fane Finau, with the Knights happy to throw the ball around at their line with an over-the-head-and-out-the-back ball paying off. Dibb's conversion attempt rockets back off the post and away, meaning the score stays 28-4. 

23rd min: Injury alert - Olivia Higgins comes from the field and later get strapping on her arm. 

22nd min: Nice work from Bridget Hoy to score the opening try for the Bulldogs, just able to keep her legs in and control of the ball to get it down on the line just inside the touchline. The conversion attempt is waved away, so it's 24-4 to the Knights. 

19th min: The home side are finding it far too easy to score and get their fourth try in quick succession, with Sienna Yeo the latest to get on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs are just gifting possession with their errors and are being made to pay. Dibb coverts again and it's 24-0. 

15th min: Three tries on the trot for the home side, with Higgins again involved in the lead up, but it's Fane Finau who gets over the line to score. Dibb converts again for 18-0.

11th min: Another try for the Knights, with forward Tayla Predebon powering her way over the line after cutting back in against the grain with some good dummy half work from Olivia Higgins at the line. Dibb converts again and it's 12-0. 

7th min: The home side had been pressing and they finally get on the board with Sidney Taylor scoring. Kirra Dibb puts up a bomb that proves too hard to handle up the back for the Bulldogs and the rugby converts swoops in to pick up the scraps. Dibb converts for a 6-0 lead. 

Kick off: Knights kick off and the Bulldogs have the first use of the ball.

Knights: The Knights are 1-17 with no late changes. Hooker Olivia Higgins will play her 50th game for the Knights. Jules Kirkpatrick is the 18th player.

Bulldogs: The Bulldogs line up 1-17 with no late changes. Tamika Jones returns from suspension into the second row, moving Leilani Wilson to prop, with Alexis Tauaneai shifting to lock. Hope Millard goes to the bench. Pauline Suli-Ruka is 18th player.

Cowboys v Roosters at Queensland Country Bank Stadium

Full-time: The Roosters march on and score a 56-6 win over the North Queensland Cowboys. Roosters skipper Isabelle Kelly impressed again with 210 run metres, while fellow centre Jess Sergis scored a double, as did hooker Keeley Nizza in the 10 tries to one victory. The Roosters did most of the damage in the first half to lead 38-0 - the highest first half score in the NRLW.

66th min: Nearly a second try for the Cowboys, but Nadia Windleborn knocks the ball on over the line in her desperate scramble to get it down. Sergis knocks the ball on in trying to bring down a kick, leaving Masters to clean up the scraps and she gets to to the interchange hooker, but with the attention of the defenders, she loses the ball. 

62nd min: A double for Jess Sergis, who runs in from 20 out and shows some footwork to dance around Cowboys defenders and improves the position to score her side's 10th try of the day. Kelleher converts again for a 56-6 scoreline. 

60th min: A successful captain's challenge from the Cowboys with prop Essay Banu correct in saying she knock the ball backwards. Bunker confirms and they get to keep the ball. 

57th min: Roosters get back on track and score again after having to withstand some pressure from the Cowboys at the other end. The home side took an intercept and went on the attack, but Jess Sergis was able to field their kick on the full, getting a 20-metre restart. From there, the Roosters went on a run, with another good break from Sariah Paki in the lead up. Keeley Nizza was the one to finish the job and go over by the posts. Kelleher converts and they hit the half century to lead 50-6. 

51st min: A great individual try from Ashley Marsters who just didn't give up on the play and showed great strength to slam the ball down. The Cowboys had been building and off good strong runs from Essay Banu and Marsters, they get to the line. Rosie Kelly converts for 44-6. 

41st min: The Roosters are the first on the board in the second half, but did have to work for this one and got some luck along the way. A kick to the in-goal sees the ball coming off the posts, missing the desperate hands of the Cowboys, with the Roosters picking up the scraps and going to Taneisha Gray who goes over. Kelleher converts and it's 44-0. 

36th min: Not a promising start for the Cowboys, with an error from the kick off, going out on the full.

Half-time: One-way traffic in North Queensland with the Roosters racing out to a 38-0 lead at the break. They have just been far to quick and able to exploit some poor defence in and around with ruck, with the Cowboys also unable to complete sets of their own to compound the divide. At the break, the Roosters have a whopping 70 percent of the possession, completing 16/19. The Cowboys however have only managed to complete 4/9 for 44 percent. 

30th min: Despite being a player down, the Roosters add to their tally with Sariah Paki finishing off a play started by Taina Naividi - who has stepped into dummy half and made a big break - to score. Kelleher converts again for 38-0. 

24th min: The Roosters go down to 12 players with Aliyah Nasio sent to the sin bin for  a hip drop tackle on Alisha Foord. 

19th min: The Roosters continue their relentless run in this first half and this time forward Millie Elliott is the one to get her name on the scoreboard after running onto a clever pass from Olivia Kernick in the middle. The Cowboys just keep on giving up possession to the visitors and can't contain them. Kelleher converts again for 32-0. 

16th min: This is far too easy for the Roosters who get another try, this time through Keeley Nizza who just goes from dummy half and runs to score by the sticks. Kelleher converts and it's a big 26-0 lead to the Roosters. 

14th min: More points for the Roosters, with Fiji international Taina Naividi going over for try number four for her side. Playing on the wing to start today, she just has to catch a ball sent her way after good work in the middle of the field. Kelleher misses the conversion so the score stays 20-0. 

10th min: A captain's challenge from the Roosters is unsuccessful, with the Bunker confirming a lost ball from Keeley Nizza. 

9th min: This time it's Tarryn Aiken who scores another for the Roosters who are running riot in the Townsville sun. Again the ball goes out to their right and with a dummy and run, the halfback is through. Kelleher converts and it's 16-0. 

4th min: Another try in quick time for the Roosters with Jess Sergis getting through a gap and stepping her way through the line. The try started on the left side with a strong break from Sariah Paki, before they went to their right side where the Jillaroos representative was able to finish the job. Kelleher converts this time for 10-0.  

1st min: And just like that, the Roosters go over for the first try of the game after forcing an error in the opening tackle. The visitors get a scrum and get the ball out to fullback Corban Baxter to score. Jocelyn Kelleher can't convert, so it remains a 4-0 lead. 

Kick off: Roosters kick off and give the home side the Cowboys the first use of the ball. However, in the first carry, Ashley Marsters loses the ball. 

Some news out of the Cowboys this week, with inaugural captain Tallisha Harden calling time on her career. Also the equal most capped Indigenous All Stars player (alongside Jack Wighton), Harden represented Queensland and Australia during her time.

Cowboys: No late changes on game day. Essay Banu is back to bolster the front row, while Charlize Lloyd-Phillips returns on the wing. Centre Jasmine Peters (concussion) is sidelined, while back-rower Tallisha Harden has called time on her career after a season-ending finger injury. Hailee-Jay Ormond-Maunsell is the new centre, with Kayla Jackon shifting from wing to the second row in jersey No.23. Lily Dick goes back to the bench. 

Roosters: Taneisha Gray has been added to the interchange bench 90 minutes before kick-off, shifting Amber Hall to 18th player. Winger Jayme Fressard remains sidelined with a hand injury so John Strange goes with the same 1-18 from last week's win over the Sharks. Prop Otesa Pule will become the youngest player to reach 50 NRLW games at just 23 years of age. 

 

Warriors v Sharks at Go Media Stadium

Welcome back: A great return from injury for Annessa Biddle who racked up 135 run metres, three tackle breaks and a try assist for the Sharks while Steph Faulkner also grabbed a try and made 20 tackles in her comeback.

Full-time: The Sharks have their second win of the season after running in seven tries to all but put an end to the Warriors' hopes of playing finals. The Warriors also managed seven tries but goalkicking proved the difference in the end.

70 min: Gayle Broughton crashes over for a consolation try after sneaking out of dummy half and throwing a big dummy to deceive the defence. The conversion attempt from Jasmin Huriwai is good. Sharks 40-32

63 min: The Sharks extend the lead with Cassie Staples crossing in the right-hand corner courtesy of an Annessa Biddle that hits the ground but bounces up kindly for her winger to gather and score. Chantay Kiria-Ratu nails the conversion from wide out. Sharks 40-26

59 min: Jasmin Huriwai spills the ball in contact and a knock on is called. The Warriors challenge and come up trumps with the bunker ruling strip.

58 min: Lavinia Tauhalaliku stays down after a tackle and feels for her neck but she is right to play on after treatment.

56 min: Chantay Kiria-Ratu grabs the Sharks' sixth try as she bamboozles the defence with a big dummy and sharp footwork. CKR converts her own try. Sharks 34-26

53 min: Georgia Hannaway with a short ball out of dummy half for a charging Steph Faulkner to crash over in her comeback game. Chantay Kiria-Ratu converts from close range and the Sharks are in front. Sharks 28-26

50 min: Stacey Waaka goes with one hand to try and tap back a bomb but she is ruled to have been a disruptor as Tiana Penitani-Gray tried to make the catch.

46 min: Chantay Kiria-Ratu makes a cold drop off the kick-off and the Warriors load up inside the red zone but an error by Metanoia Fetalaiga puts the ball down.

45 min: Scintillating speed off the mark from Jada Taylor who steps off both feet and evades three defenders on a 15m dash to the line. Chantay Kiria-Ratu converts. Warriors 26-22

40 min: Patricia Maliepo goes high from 30m out, Stacey Waaka chases hard and makes a great catch before offloading for Maliepo to score. A great kick and great support play by the No.7. Jasmin Huriwai takes over the kicking and adds the extras. Warriors 26-16

39 min: A head clash between Madison Ashby and Payton Takimoana as they contest a bomb. Ashby is penalised for high contact.

Half-time: Eight tries and plenty of entertaining footy at Go Media Stadium with Quincy Dodd and Payton Takimoana snaring doubles. That's 18 tries in 18 NRLW games for Takimoana who made the most of all the possession the Wahs enjoyed in the opening half (62 per cent to 38 per cent). 

35 min: The Warriors have the last say as Patricia Maliepo changes the direction from right to left and gets Gayle Broughton and Mele Hufanga involved before Lavinia Tauhalaliku crosses in the corner. That's five tries for the home side but no conversions for Maliepo from some tough angles. Warriors 20-16

32 min: Payton Takimoana makes the Sharks pay for their error as Patricia Maliepo sets the right edge in motion again and Stacey Waaka delivers a sweet offload for Takimoana to score. 16-16

31 min: Now it's the Sharks making an error from the kick-off as Chantay Kiria-Ratu knocks the ball on. 

30 min: Quincy Dodd tries to find China Polata with a short ball just out from the line, Gayle Broughton knocks the pass down, Dodd scoops it up and dives over to complete her double. Chantay Kiria-Ratu converts. Sharks 16-12

29 min: A mistake from the Warriors as they allow the kick-off to bounce and it goes into touch for a scrum.

27 min: Prolific tryscorer Payton Takimoana has another after quick hands from Gayle Broughton, Kaiyah Atai and Stacey Waaka to out-strip the Sharks' left edge defence. Patricia Maliepo fails to convert. Warriors 12-10

22 min: Mele Hufanga has a try after she takes an inside pass from Shakira Baker who had busted the line off a Gayle Broughton pass. Hufanga did well to juggle the pass and hold on and then power over for her fourth try of the season. Sharks 10-8

21 min: An error by Anne-Marie Kiria-Ratu takes the air out of the balloon with the Sharks building some pressure.

17 min: Payton Takimoana goes close again and flicks a pass back inside which the Sharks knock down. Warriors scrum 10m out.

14 min: A try to Stacey Waaka on the right edge after the Warriors had made big metres down the wing through Payton Takimoana. That's a try in six straight games for Waaka. The conversion is missed by Patricia Maliepo. Sharks 10-4

13 min: Quincy Dodd and Ellie Johnston get their timing wrong and the Sharks turn it over.

10 min: The Sharks strike again as Marewa Samson crosses on the left edge off a clearly forward pass by Madison Ashby that is missed by the match officials. Sharks 10-0

6 min: The Sharks strike first after Cassie Staples swoops on a Warriors error and makes big metres before being dragged down. Two plays later Quincy Dodd takes an offload from Chantay Kiria-Ratu and scampers over from 10m out. Chantay Kiria-Ratu converts. Sharks 6-0

4 min: A pinpoint bomb to the corner from Patricia Maliepo and the Sharks put it down. Warriors scrum 10m out.

3 min: Annessa Biddle with a line break and picks up Jada Taylor but the fullback's goes astray as she tries to keep the movement going.

2 min: Chantay Kiria-Ratu goes high at the end of the set but Payton Takimoana comes up with a safe catch.

Warriors: No further game day changes after winger Tysha Ikenasio came out of the side due to an ankle injury on Friday and was replaced by Payton Takimoana in No.18. Mya Hill-Moana is the 18th player. Ivana Lauitiiti will miss the next two games with suspension, with forward Metanoia Fetalaiga coming on to the bench in her place this week. 

Sharks: Hooker Quincy Dodd makes an early return from a broken arm, while Georgia Hannaway (ankle) has been named on the bench alongside Steph Faulkner and Annessa Biddle, who is back from a knee injury. Ellie Johnston is back from suspension and will start in the front row with Manilita Takapautolo shifting to the second row, Anne-Marie Ratu to lock and Tegan Dymock to 18th player. Winger Milla Elaro dropped out in Friday's 24-hour update, with her place taken by Marewakiterangi Samson in jersey No.19.
