The Central Coast Roosters NSW Women’s Premiership team are out of the 2026 competition after a loss in Week One of the finals.

NSW Cup

The 6th placed Sydney Roosters season is over after failing to qualify for the finals. They finished the season with 13 wins and 9 losses.

The semi-finals commenced on Saturday with 5th placed New Zealand knocked out. In next week’s matches minor premiers Penrith take on 3rd placed Newcastle in the major semi-final, whilst 2nd placed North Sydney will play 4th placed Newtown in the minor semi-final.

Jersey Flegg Cup (Men’s Under 21s)

The 10th placed Sydney Roosters season is over after failing to qualify for the finals. They finished the season with 8 wins and 13 losses.

The semi-finals commenced on Saturday with 5th placed Wests Tigers knocked out. In next week’s matches minor premiers St George Illawarra take on 2nd placed Penrith in the major semi-final, whilst 3rd placed Canterbury-Bankstown will play 4th placed Cronulla-Sutherland in the minor semi-final.

NSW Women’s Premiership

The Central Coast Roosters, who finished the regular season in 5th spot, have been beaten 30-20 by 4th placed Mounties in a Week One elimination preliminary semi-final at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, after scores were locked at 16-16 at half time, knocking the Roosters out of the 2026 competition.

The Roosters team featured NRLW squad members Talea Tonga (halfback), Shawden Burton (hooker), Eliza Lopamaua (bench), Tatum Bird (bench hooker) and Nikiah Campbell (right edge), as well as development players Te Raukura Leafe (prop), Logan Fletcher (right wing) and Mia Vaotu’ua (five eighth).

NRLW development player Anastasia Leatupue (right centre) missed the match with suspension, whilst NRLW squad members Marcie Carlile and Keighley Simpson remain on the sidelines for the rest of the season, with knee injuries, Further, Taneisha Gray and Mia Wood also missed this game due to NRLW commitments in Townsville, and regular prop Tyra Dymock (knee) has been ruled out for the season.

Mounties, featuring a number of Canberra Raiders NRLW squad members, opened the scoring in the 5th minute when winger Gabrielle Savage, scored in the right corner, to lead 4-0. The Roosters hit back soon after when prop Eliza Lopamaua received the ball close to the Mounties line and was too big and strong to be held out. The Logan Fletcher conversion gave the Roosters a 6-4 lead after 12 minutes. Hooker Shawden Burton stretched the lead further, in the 20th minute, when she also scored from close range. The Fletcher conversion enabled the Roosters to lead 12-4.

Mounties posted back-to-back tries, in the 24th and 28th minutes, to right centre Relna Wuruki-Hosea, to re-take the lead 16-12 and looked set to take that lead into half time. However, an error deep inside Mounties territory saw a scrum set 25 metres out from their line. From the scrum Roosters halfback Talea Tonga threw multiple dummies to crack the defence and score wide out. Although the conversion was missed, the scores were now locked up at 16-16 at the break.

PNG International Wuruki-Hosea scored the third of her three tries to open up the second half scoring, in the 37th minute, and give the Mounties a 20-26 lead. A Mounties play the ball error, 26 minutes from full time, led to the Roosters fourth try, where Talea Tonga’s smart balling playing skills gave left centre Majayda Darcy a free run to the line. The missed conversion saw scores tied at 20-20.

The match and season were on the line but the Roosters weren’t able to maintain sufficient pressure on the Mounties, and handling errors gave the opposition field position when it was most needed. The Mounties posted tries in the 53rd and 62nd minutes to take a 30-20 lead and the Roosters were shut out of the game. It was a disappointing end to a season in which the Club returned to the finals for the first time since 2020. However, it was a very young side and many will benefit greatly for the experience. Hopefully, a number will eventually become regular NRLW players.

Next week’s semi finals will pit minor premiers Newcastle against 2nd placed South Sydney in the major semi final and 3rd placed Penrith against 4th placed Mounties in the minor semi final.

Ron Massey Cup

The season has been completed for the Dirty Reds, finishing the year in 9th place, with just three wins and fifteen losses.

Minor premiers Ryde-Eastwood and 2nd placed St Marys played in Saturday’s Grand Final at Campbelltown, with St Marys making it back-to-back premierships, with a 18-16 victory.

Sydney Shield

Minor premiers St Marys and 2nd placed Mounties played in Saturday’s Grand Final at Campbelltown, with St Marys taking the title with a 32-26 win.
