20 Years On: Minichiello Reunited with Golden Boot Award

Sydney Roosters legend Anthony Minichiello has been reunited with his prestigious 2005 Golden Boot Award, more than two decades after being crowned the best rugby league player in the world.

In a special presentation at Roosters headquarters attended by Roosters Board Members and staff, Minichiello received a newly commissioned Golden Boot trophy, recognising one of the most remarkable individual seasons in the Club's history.

The presentation came after Roosters CEO Joe Kelly discovered that Minichiello had never received a permanent version of the award.

At the time, the Golden Boot was a travelling trophy, with recipients required to return it after their year of recognition.

Following the discovery, Kelly worked alongside International Rugby League Chair Troy Grant and Secretary General Danny Kazandjian to ensure Minichiello's achievement was appropriately recognised.

Reflecting on the occasion, Kelly praised the Club legend's extraordinary 2005 campaign.

"It was, interestingly, a year that we didn't make the finals, but Mini won every award going," Kelly said.

"It was an unbelievable individual year, that ultimately led to the Golden Boot award."

Minichiello's outstanding campaign included the Wally Lewis Medal as State of Origin Player of the Series, the Harry Sunderland Medal and the prestigious Golden Boot.

Speaking at the presentation, Kazandjian highlighted the significance of the achievement.

"When Anthony won it in 2005, it was for truly the best player across club and international football," Kazandjian said.

Minichiello expressed his gratitude to those involved in organising the presentation.

"I know it's been over 20 years, but it's nice to have something that we can put into the museum here and just showcase all the history of the Roosters and what's gone before us," Minichiello said.

In a fitting gesture, the Club legend has generously donated the trophy to the Roosters Museum, ensuring his remarkable achievement will be celebrated by future generations of supporters.
