Wigan were defeated by the Sydney Roosters on Saturday morning 36-14 and despite a second half comeback to within ten points after trailing 18-0 at the break, Head Coach Shaun Wane reflected post match and was full praise for the Roosters, he said,
"We were poor the best team won, they are a big athletic skillful team, when you complete at only 67% in the first half you don't give yourself a chance to win. I am upset because we under sold ourselves a bit, that wasn't the best we can play. We played for 15 minutes and we scored three tries and that's the lesson and that's it in a nutshell.
"I am upset with the way we played and the way we started the game, you just can't start like that against quality teams and without a doubt the best team won, they are a Champion team, we just didn't perform, our shape was poor, our contact area was poor but we will get better. We are a young side and we will get better, I want to come back here with my team and give a better account of ourselves."
Despite the defeat Wane said his team would benefit hugely from the experience and will be doing all he can to win the Grand Final later this year and qualify again for the World Club Challenge,
"The trip has been a great experience and we have loved it, we play Wakefield next week and that sort of speed of game has been a great experience for my young players and it has given them the want to come back here again and we will. I want to win the competition in England and come back here again, there is no question about that."
"I would like to increase the number of Clubs that play in it, it is a great concept, we have had a great two weeks. I just wish everyone here today could have seen the real Wigan Warriors."
Wane confirmed that Eddy Pettybourne damaged his bicep in the game and couldn't come back on but everyone else came through the game in Sydney injury free.
